    2. Carole M. Barger
    3. I am looking for any information on William McPherson b. 1/11/1823 in Giles Co., who married Nancy J. (?) b. 10/10/1822. in Tazewell Co. I do not have a marriage date. They had a son Thomas b. 5/30/1845 in Giles Co. They later moved to Lee County where they had eight more children. Nancy died 12/11/1863 and William died 4/13/1871. I believe Nancy J. was probably Nancy J. Harris daughter of Thomas Harris who married Catherine McPherson in 1831. If anyone has any information on William or Nancy I would really appreciate hearing from you.

    3. Hi... I sent this post on 6-20-99. And now I see another one. So here it comes again, I thought you might have been on vacation and didn't get to see this. Bette I remember seeing on the list someone looking for BLANKINSHIP. In looking at the 1850 census of Giles, VA. for WEBB, KARR, TAYLOR, I saw this: pg. 821, dwelling 627, family 620, Mary Ann BLANKINSHIP 36, f, VA. Patsy 6, f, VA. and I can't make out the name, 1, m, VA. pg. 816 dwelling 597 family 541, Francis HARMAN 60, m, black, PA. Phoebe 55, f, black, PA. Eliza 13, f, w, PA. Nancy BLANKINSHIP 24, f, PA. Rebecca A. BLANKINSHIP 6/12, f, PA. There was one or two other BLANKINSHIP's on this census that I saw. I thought this might help someone. It is very hard for me to make out the spelling so I could be off. 3. I haven't heard of that trick but I have some information on the Adam Johnston family. If you could provide me with more details maybe I could make a connection for you. Hugh Johnston's son James, I have listed as James W. born circa 1838..no further info. But I haven't researched down that line either so let me know what you have and I'll see what I can come up with. I am descended from James A. Johnston s/o Adam Johnston. 1. Census in Giles
    2. After 25 years of searching, including trips to Washington, Richmond and Ohio, I'm not told that I've been duped by a cagy politician and census taker. I was told late last week that a census taker in Giles County in 1870 and 1880 advised certain Giles residents to claim that they had been born in Northern states in order to preserve their voting rights? I've been looking for James A. Johnston. Based upon census records that indicated he and his parents had been born in Ohio, I've been chasing a phantom looking for his parents. It turns out that he probably is the son of Hugh Johnston and grandson of immigrant Adam Johnston, all living in Giles County. Has anyone else heard about this census trick?

    3. Dear Vicky's e-mail buddies, This is Travis (Bubba) Vicky's son and I've got some bad news. Friday morning Vicky had an aneurysm in her brain and collapsed on the floor. We took her to the hospital and she just got worse and worse. So this morning about 12:00 the doctor pronounced her brain dead and we decided to take her off life support. They said that the weak blood vessel was there from birth and It was just a matter of time before something like this would happen. So I thought all of you out there should know about it. Sincerely, Travis M. Terry

    3. Hi ... If there is German/Austrian/Swiss blood in your ancestors, then I would concentrate on a surname in the direction of "Kieke". "IE" is always pronounced a long "EE". In fact, "Kieke" is a good German last name. There are over 250 telephone entries in Germany alone. Of course, who knows what the name was changed to once it got over here.
