    1. [VAGEN-L] GenConnect clusters
    2. Eve Gregory
    3. Hi guys, Another stupid question. Can someone tell me whom to ask or how to get my James City County and Surry County Genconnect cluster main pages to acknowledge the existence of my VAGenWeb pages now moved to Rootsweb? I have the correct links on the individual cluster pages, but the main resource pages for my counties still say there are no county pages for Surry and James City. All help appreciated! -- Eve S. 3. When Rootsweb started offering free space to genealogical societies, they suggested a %5 figure on any books sold from their server as a courtesy agreement, but it wasn't enforced. USGenWeb was created in the spirit of volunteerism, with no volunteer having financial gain from hosting a USGenWeb page. VAGenWeb is not rootsweb.com, and rootsweb.com is not VAGenWeb.

    3. Laura, I've been giving this some thought, and finally reached the opinion that it's perfectly normal to list available books from B&N that would be of interest to researchers in Princess Anne, and include a link to a B&N webpage. The introduction of monetary compensation DOES taint this somewhat with a commercial flavor, regardless of who enjoys use of the funds. VAGenWeb is not rootsweb.com, and rootsweb.com is not VAGenWeb. I would be more comfortable without such an arrangement on any VAGenWeb site. I'd recommend creating and linking to a personal webpage which does the same thing. I haven't "heard" any other opinions on this subject ... (| oo |) Freddie S. 3. Reply-to: Lynn <cestus3@inetnebr.com> State Coordinators: Please forward this to your state lists! - ------------------------------ I have noticed that several states and counties have started pages that deal with unidentified photos and with memorabilia that has been located and they cannot find the rightful heirs. I have started a page for links to such sites for all counties and states that have these pages. I would like for anyone that has a site for these things to please contact me so that I may add a link to YOUR site, whether it be State or County level! If you do not have such a site, you might want to think about creating one. I have already had many submissions to my own, and requests for additional ones in other states, but as I am not part of the states in question, I would not want to be the one to have such sites for those states. For examples of the unidentified photo pages see: http://www2.crosswinds.net/~sdcounk/mystery.htm For the memorabilia see: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cogenweb/goldmine/goldmin.htm To see the links pages : Mystery Gallery Project (unidentified photos) http://www.rootsweb.com/~cogenweb/mystery/index.htm The Gold Mine Project: (memorabilia) http://www.rootsweb.com/~cogenweb/goldmine/index.htm I would also appreciate a link to these two projects pages. Thank you, Lynn cestus3@inetnebr.com

    1. [VAGEN-L] Census Jobs
    2. Freddie Spradlin
    3. From: Yvonne James-Henderson <hen1@idt.net> FYI - forwarded from another List A representative from the Census Dept of the US Govt. asked me to spread the news to homeschoolers (and/or others) that there are temporary, part time jobs working on the Census 2000. I guess you can look at this as having a direct impact on your congressional representation along with participating in a civic activity. They will be working in the Virginia counties of Fauquier, Prince William, Loudoun, Clarke, Warren, Fairfax and Stafford and in the cities of Fredericksburg and Alexandria. They will be opening an office in Manassas so they will need clerical office people, but I got the impression that there will be other kinds of jobs available too. What is the pay? Census jobs will pay a competitive wage in your area. Also Census workers will be reimbursed for authorized expenses such as mileage. What will I do? Census jobs are all about making sure everyone is counted accurately. Most jobs are in the field, checking addresses and conducting interviews with residents. The ability to speak a foreign language is a plus in some areas. Qualifications are: You are 18 years or older. Persons 16 or 17 can qualify if they have a high school diploma or equivalency and meet state employment conditions. You take a written test of basic skills (in some areas, the test may be taken in Spanish). You agree not to engage in any partisan political activity within 24 hours of performing work. For males 18 and older, you must be registered with selective service. If interested call 1-888-325-7733 (toll free) or (703) 274-2062 After you take the test it takes 2-3 weeks to process applications before they are put in our database. The person who gave me all this information is Beverly Alspaugh from the US Census Dept. Please pass this on to others you feel might be interested in the Northern Virginia area. Thanks and Take care, Yvonne in Burke, VA

    3. You can get ballots here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mogenweb/state.htm If you don't get a confirmation after you've voted, be sure to let Ellen Pack or Freddie know as soon as possible. The confirmation might not return immediately, according to the explanations on the above webpage. Linda

We have one week to go before `this election is over. There are a few eligible voters that `we have sent ballots to in all three of our ballot mailings, `that still have not recieved their ballot. This is what the `Election Committee would like to do. Each SC should check `one more time for voters without ballots.
