Wayne, This is news to me. The rootsweb.com folks do not condone the posting of copyrighted material to their servers, without the permission of the person holding the copyright. USGenWeb policy is the same. All .gif files are the property of their creators, but many if not most have been released for general use. Certainly a .gif of Mickey Mouse would be covered by the specific copyright for the Disney character. I doubt the assertion animated that the concept of animated .gifs is copyrighted, but don't have any real knowledge on the subject. Freddie S. Fill me in more about "copyrighted" animated .GIF's. I can't see where they all are copyrighted material...for there are several graphic "animation" software packages on the market that allows you to create your own. I even have one here called Gif Construction Set by Alchemy Mindworks, Inc. If I create my own animated Gifs with it, how are the copyrighted if I want them "public" domain? Steven (Czar) Page
There are sites that give animated graphics for free. Just some sites are commercial and sell them. There are free sites out there. Joyce
