Does anyone know of any strange problems at Rootsweb? I updated pages this weekend. They were all there and ok. Now they all reverted back to early Sept. I tried going back to upload correct versions and can't get in at all. Any ideas? Rootsweb is going to announce a brand new resource for genealogists. We've gotten permission to tell a few friends. :) PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS BETA.. but the URL is permanent. You can upload your gedcom, and it will display your family tree in html, with lots of features, including the ability to add post-ems, and link to sources. It's searchable, and can link family databases from all over the world. If you've been wanting to get your family tree online, and don't have a webpage, or even if you do, this is wonderful! http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igmuser.cgi Simply log in with a user code (whatever you want to call your database), and set your own password (please remember it). I've uploaded my gedcom: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=russell It's FREE!! Linda

Dear Fauquier County, Virginia Genealogist, I hope that you love Fauquier County and OUR web site as much as I do. It has been my pleasure to get to know and work with many of you who have the same love. Even though we may not live in Fauquier County, our appreciation for its history and heritage can be very much a part of our lives. Thanks to everyone for your contributions, especially to the 1850 Census transcribers. Our census is the largest in Virginia in 1850. I have added a permanent section to thank the twenty six people who transcribed and proofed this census. Some have indicated that they cannot find things on the site. I can understand how you feel. To me this is like reading a new book or visiting a new library. You just have to find your way around. You may have to return several times. I am happy that so many of you enjoy the visit. Please return often. I have added a lot of new sites and information in the last week. Soo I would like to invite you to return for a visit. Turns out we have a huge amount of information available on this site. Far more than many may imagine. So the ones who dig get the value. >From many emails I know that some are missing wonderful parts to the our site. The Gen Connect Wills are very confusing to many. Return there and just visit. Add your ancestors family Bible or Obituary to the sections found there. There are many parts to this site that can really help you. Swems Index, The Virginia State library, the Story sections, Fauquier County books, Family Web Sites, Fauquier County library, Fredericksburg Court Records, War of the Rebellion Records, and many more. USGENWEB will never replace your personal research as we all know. So go back to Virginia and visit the old home place and cemetery. Visit the library and courthouse. Visit John Gott and the Heritage society. Visit the Historical Society, Jackie Lee and the old Jail. Take the Ghost tour of Warrenton. Visit the old antique stores. Above all let us know of your experiences there. Add the pictures you take of Fauquier County so we can all share your experience. Family History is like a love affair. You just have to keep learning about your family and the areas where your family lived. My mother's parents both have roots in Fauquier County. So I am priviledged to say that I have deep Fauquier County, Virginia roots. We are so fortunate to have the records we have in Fauquier County. I am very grateful to the Yankees for not burning the court house. We have wonderful records available to us in those records. As genealogist we should want to preserve and cherish this heritage. I hope that you are contributing to a lot of the other USGENWEB sites. We have to love the areas where our families lived. When you find information on your family let the person know that you enjoyed the visiting their site. Many who have the sites want to share, all they want in return to be thanked for their efforts. If you have data that they may enjoy please share that information with them. Above all give the credit to the genealogist who provided you with the information. Do not indicated that you did the research when you copied it from someone else. With computer technology we have the opportunity to preserve our heritage. I would encourage you to make hard copies of the information you find on the sites that you really enjoy. It is my hope that we can work together for years to come to learn about this heritage. This can be a learning experience for all of us as we share our knowledge together. I know there are some on the list who have great knowledge of Fauquier County who are shall we say are standing on the sidelines. I would encourage you to join us in the game. We need your knowledge and expertise. We will all learn more about Fauquier County, if we all share what we know. Many are concerned that we are giving out incorrect genealogy. We do not have that intent. If you find something that is incorrect let us know. We want correct sources and information. I can tell you who the real winners are in this project. They are the people who have volunteered and helped make this a better site. Just remember that you get as much out of something as you put in. Just in case you do not get the message. I love Family History and Fauquier County. Thanks to everyone who suscribes to this mailing list. We appreciate your participation. Jim Burgess Fauquier County, Virginia USGENWEB PS Sorry I did not know this was going to turn in to an epistle.

Would you mind forwarding this to your different county coordinators to send to their library and local genealogy society? This book includes all the cemeteries in McCulloch County, Texas. We researched all the death certificates, funeral home records, obits from old microfilms of the newspaper, city hall burial records and cross-checked these dates with tombstone names and dates. Would you mind forwarding this to anyone in your area who might be interested? The cost is $27.50 plus $3.50 postage. The books are printed on heavy natural colored paper and have brown hard back covers with gold letters. There are 356 pages and the book contains platts of some of the cemeteries with all burial locations after each person's name. If anyone is interested in buying a book, checks may be sent to me and I'll get the books mailed the same day, or they can be ordered from Richards Memorial Library , 1106 Blackburn St., Brady, TX 76825. Hello all, I just got an email from someone else wanting to use 'my' graphics which is fine, but I failed to give credit where credit is due on my last note. I didn't make any of those graphics as I am about as artistic as a tree stump :) So if you use any of the graphics on my pages, ALL of them require a link back to the designer. I'll see if I can make it simpler... On the archives pages, small graphics are made by Viki Mouse. My link back to her web page is easy to spot...it's a MOUSE!!! She's wonderful & I recommend you check out her page before deciding to use one of the graphics on my page as you may find something you like better. http://www.vikimouse.com/ Her site is HUGE, but keep looking & you'll find the genealogy stuff. There are also graphics that are appropriate for genealogy that she doesn't categorize as such, so look thru them all! If you still want to use the ones I chose, be absolutely sure that you give her the credit she deserves by adding a link to her page. You can just copy the link from the bottom of my pages. The lines, or seperaters, on the archives page are provided by CS Designs, another wonderful graphics designer! Again, I recommend you visit her web page at http://welcome.to/cherished_memories before deciding to use the same graphics that I chose as she is indeed very talented and comes up with new stuff all the time. But, if not, be sure to copy the link I have given her from the bottom of my pages. On my personal home page I use Glee Graphics http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Woods/5503/ Since my web page is "sorta" a business page, I had to get special permission to use them. She is also a very talented artist, so you may also want to visit her web site, although I would very much prefer it if you didn't use the Puzzles in Time theme :) However, it's a free world & I don't own it, so you can if you really, REALLY, want to :) There are tons of genelogy graphics out there today. It used to be really hard to find them, but not anymore. One day I'll post a list for you guys, but I just don't have time to do so today. Meanwhile, if you don't find any like on these pages, you might try Cyndi's list to look for them, or search for Genealogy Graphics on your favorite search engine. Happy graphics hunting! From: Teri Pettit <pettit@Adobe.COM> USGenWeb volunteers, Many people have been sending comments, complaints, questions, etc. to their individual Advisory Board representatives asking for some official action, opinion, etc., without sending a copy to the rest of the Board. This is fine, since it is a lot easier for you to know who your Rep is than to try to make a To list covering the entire board. But it is usually impossible for a rep to make any official response without first discussing the issue or request with the rest of the Advisory Board members. Since we try to follow standard email etiquette of not forwarding messages without the permission of the sender, this introduces a significant delay in making any response, where the Board member sends a message to the person who contacted them, asking for permission to forward their email to the rest of the Board, and waits for a reply. Since most people aren't online constantly, it could cut a day off the response time if anybody sending mail to an Advisory Board member asking for some official Board action would specify whether or not it is OK to forward their message to the rest of the Advisory Board. State Coordinators, since most of these messages come from County Coordinators, and USGENWEB-ALL is not really nearly "all", could you please forward this reminder to your state lists? Thanks, Teri Pettit CC-Rep, SE/Mid-Atlantic Region P.S. It is our policy to keep specific details of complaints on the private BOARD-EXEC-L, to protect the privacy and security of the project members involved, while discussing general issues, policy guidelines, and procedures on the archived list BOARD-L, searchable at http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl So if you want your message forwarded to BOARD-L, be aware that we may bleep out names, states, and other identifying details.

A hearty welcome to the new host of Madison County, Sue Seibert Freddie S. On 26-SEP-1999 11:31:56.3 pituso said to FSPRADLIN `Hi, the new Madison County page is up. The url is slightly `different: `http://www.rootsweb.com/~vamadiso/ `sue seibert <pituso@mesh.net>
Would any of you be interested in being the VA coordinator of the USGenWeb Tombstone Project? Candy had to give it up, and I took it temporarily, but find I can't give it the attention it needs. Submissins are coming in from visitors, and the page needs updating. :( As the VA coordinator, you receive Cemetery Registrations, and sometimes files. You will update the VA page of the project, listing the cemeteries and links to the files if online. The files you receive can be sent to any VA Archives file manager. Thanks! Linda
