The reason you see "North Carolina" mentioned when you enter a marriage is because Marce used the same page formats that she has used for NC and other states. The marriages will go into the VA database, and she'll fix the verbage if she hasn't already. She only has to do a "find/replace" on the html. Linda
I accidentally deleted the other letter. I just want to say that there USED to be a Bath county, North Carolina. So that is why Marceline included it in her database, no doubt. You are about to enter the following information into the North Carolina Marriages database. Please verify the information. Use your back button to return to the previous screen to make corrections. If you are satisfied with your entry, click the submit button to update the database. Groom's Surname: Walker First Name: Charles Age: Bride's Surname: Turner First Name: Elizabeth Age: Type of Record: Marriage Bond Date of Record: 08 Jul 1791 Bondsmen: John Oliver Witnesses: Officiator: County: Bath Source: Miscellaneous Other: Your Name: Rena Worthen Your Email: doreatr@rbnet.com Ok, I like it! To make changes, use your browser's "back" button to return to the previous page. ***** There is a problem here, it says North Carolina, but Bath County is in Va. I will go ahead and push ok and see where it is, Push ok then look It looks like it falls in the right place as it is found where it should be. I am posting this to the list so you can see everything except the verbage at the top of the page works.
Marce, how hard would it be to have a "Preview" before pressing the send button? I think the preview shows a glaring error better than the entry form. How do I know? I just entered John Gregory, I thought carefully, but the result shows I didn't change the county to Charlotte. Also glaring at me, the top of the result page shows the entry is for North Carolina! People need to know how to correct oops, 'cause they are going to happen. I just proved it. Thanks for the hard work. Marceline, I *really* like your introductory statement. Just wish we could get others to do the same: Welcome to the Virginia Marriages page. The marriage records in the Virginia Marriage database are submitted by visitors to this page. The VAGenWeb Project makes no claims as to the validity of the information submitted and reminds you that each new piece of information must be researched and proved or disproved by weight of evidence. It is always best to consult the original material for verification. Please forgive this non-genealogy post, but it affects us all and I thought it important to share. This information comes from the head of the Technology Department in our corporation. He sent a two-page email to all in the company which (in brief) states that numerous sources have promised to unleash 500-1000 new viruses as part of their New Year's celebration. More than 30,000 threats have been logged by the FBI and other agencies. Because these are new viruses they are not yet all detectable by virus programs. Of particular concern are greeting cards. They warn of receiving viruses via friends who are unaware they are spreading them. The company is recommending that we back up everything, make sure our virus protection programs are updated and running and they ask us not to download anything or open any attachments (unless absolutely necessary) for the first few weeks of 2000 until updates for these new viruses can be created. I generally ignore messages such as this (many are untrue), but given the sources and documentation of this one, I thought I would share it. Again, I apologize for the nature of this post, but felt it important to keep us all informed. It seems we have fixed the Y2K bug, but seem to have a world full of hackers who think it fun to celebrate by destroying our work! Hey folks, I've taken the liberty to upload some files to counties that aren't mine. I don't usually do this, but we're closing in on the end of the year, so I went ahead. If these are your counties, you will want to know about this for when you update your Table of Contents. You may also want to rename the file or the directory (I had to create one for some counties) to suite your preferences. Can anyone on this list identify the garb worn by either members of the IOOF or the International Organization of Good Templars? I have a gr-gr uncle, John McFarling, who was a member of both organizations. I also have a photo of him wearing what appears to be the garb of a service unit. His picture can be seen at: http://lib-operations.sonoma.edu/fin/McFpix.html Carmen Finley P.S. You may get a chuckle out of his prize rooster shown with him. He was a breeder of fancy poultry. <g>

Hi, I've noticed that some of the VA county pages have the old New Kent Co. url at Geocities linked. It still works, but it is outdated and I'll be removing it. The new url is: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vanewken/ Thanks, Christine

Patrick County Va site http://www.rootsweb.com/~vapatric has been updated with the help of Bobby Wood. I have 2 years of Census that will be added in the NEAR future. Patrick County is now a user friendly site, where you can add your family HISTORY such as WILLS, PENSION records, DEEDS, BIOS, QUERIES, BIBLE records, OBITS. You may also search the web for your surname by using the Patrick County RESOURCE page. For rour reading pleasure and aid in your research all the archived queries remain on the site. If you see a bad address or a broken link, as always please let me hear. I am here for you, and now with Bobby's help, and all of you, this can be one of the best Virginia Counties on Rootsweb. I am so pleased with the outcome of this, that i wanted to share our NEW LOOK. Rena cc Patrick County.
