    1. [VAGEN-L] Giles County Success Story
    2. Yvonne James-Henderson
    3. I am sharing this wonderful e-mail that I received for the VA Success Page! Subject: Giles County Query Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2000 21:52:20 EST From: Gdmart3@aol.com To: hen1@idt.net Yvonne, I want to thank you and all else that are part of the Virginia GenWeb Project. My father passed away when I was 20 and my grandfather passed away when my father was only 6. My father didn't talk about "home" much and you can see he didn't even really know his father. I posted a query and the same day I got a response. This person gave me more information than I could have ever hoped for, I was almost in tears. It has brought me closer to my family roots like I have never experienced before, I am getting to know my family from three and four generations ago. Thank you for giving me the chance to know them like I was there with them. Glenn Martin

    3. Hi folks, Here is a really great site to keep your eyes on. Not too much for Virginia as yet, but its only been going a few months. To date we have had over 18,000 visitors and 78 MB of data in over 1,600 pages with plenty of room for more! Some may have noticed that the site has now moved. A project this size deserved its own spot on the web and can now be found at: http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com/ The off-site links have been moved from the individual county page to the state page - just scroll to the bottom of the county listings. This move makes it a little easier to find the links and for me to keep them updated. A form has also been added for you to submit links to newspaper clippings you may have on your site. This form is at: http://www.NewspaperAbstracts.com/submitlinks.html There is also a new announcement only list for those that just want to keep up to date with the additions to the site but not necessarily receive all the submissions. Each Monday one email goes out noting the additions to the site in the previous week. It will list the state, county, year and month only - not the actual articles. If you wish to subscribe to this list send a blank email to: Newspaper-Updates-subscribe@topica.com Many books have also been published with information extracted from newspapers. I would like to begin adding this information to the site so if you have newspaper related books you have published or know of someone who does, please contact me. Caution - Call for volunteers below! I am looking for someone who is good at making banners and logos. I have searched the web but cannot seem to find anything that fits our site and my graphics program is relatively worthless. Anyone on the list willing to make a few for us to use on the site? I could also use some straight-forward instructions on how to set up Eudora Light for Macintosh to use with a POP account that goes with the new web site. I must confess it has me all confused at the moment. Occasionally I have individuals send me .doc attachments with transcribed articles inside. My Mac computer is 5 years old and will not open these documents. Is anyone willing to open these attachments for me, cut & paste into an email and send them back thru the list? I currently have 15 such attachments that I cannot open. And last but not least, I need several volunteers to transcribe newspaper articles from my copies. Life as a wife, mother, home daycare operator, craft business and cub scout leader, along with my own research and keeping the site updated is keeping me very busy and I could use a little help. Any transcription volunteers?? Thank you to all who have contributed to the success of this site. It could not have taken off so well without you! At this rate just imagine what we can accomplish by our first anniversary!!
