    1. [VAGEN-L] Criteria for inclusion on Bed & Breakfast page?
    2. Mary D. Taffet
    3. Hello, This evening I was looking on the Bed & Breakfast page located at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~vagenweb/bb.htm I am wondering what the criteria are to be included here. The reason I ask is that the home my father grew up in, which was built by my grandparents, has recently been turned into a Bed & Breakfast. It is located in Appomattox County, and even has a webpage (with a good picture of the home): http://www.longacrebb.com/ My grandmother was an interior decorator with a flair towards historical items; the current owners are trying to show as much of that original flair as possible. What would it take to get this home included on the VAGENWEB page? If this question is one that I should already know the answer to as a CC, then please forgive me as I am fairly new to CC'ship. -- Thanks, Mary Taffet Prince Edward CC

I've been asked to make changes on my own web pages and I won't do it without proof even when the writer says "It is MY direct line" because that doesn't prove the writer is correct. I visited Linden Cemetery and took photos of the stones because my granddad and his parents are buried there. The stone in question is for the woman who married my great uncle who lived next door to my grandmother and the stone's inscription was so sweet I took a keen interest. Alley

    3. Linda, the actual census is not online. The index is online at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/shenandoah/census/1850indx.txt McWilliams appears on pages 1, 89B, 107 in SK Publications book for Shen. Co. 1850. The URL for the Linden Cemetery is: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ifetch2?/u1/data/va+index+576791859654+ F Showers, Annie Roy, wife of B.J. Showers, Born May 16 1839, Died Mar 3 1921, "Peaceful be thy sleep dear Annie it is sweet to breathe thy name in life I loved you dearly, in death I do the same" Annie Roy Figgins Showers was born May 16, 1889. The death date is correct. She is the daughter-in-law of Showers, George W., 1858 - 1935 Sarah E., 1861 - 1931, "Gone but not Forgotten" She would be 48 years older than her husband if the birth date of 1839 was correct.....which it isn't. Would appreciate it very much if these entries were corrected. Alley > > > >1) 1850 Shenandoah Co census lists George McWilliams as George Williams. > > Alley, what's the URL for that census? 3. Sorry.. I didn't see this the first time. You can ask any question about the Archives. The mailing list is also unarchived and can be searched. ARCHIVES-L The guidelines have been in place since June 1996: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/timetodo.htm By "same rules and regulations"... sure! The USGenWeb Archives must also be in compliance with the USGW By-laws, or risk being delinked, just like any XXGenWeb. 3. Thanks Linda, I understood that "porn" was an example, but if a board member used it (or anyone else.) It is inflammatory, and could cloud the real issue. So you are saying under the new proposal that if we have something the NC deems "inappropriate" that we are delinked and then given two weeks to comply with what the NC considers "appropriate", or be removed from the project? The word "inappropriate" is what I am having problems understanding. If wording in rules are plain and specific, then it leaves no room for mis-understandings. (can't seem to get past my family therapy training-) <grin> You over looked one of my questions, so I will ask this question again, regarding whether the archives falls under USGenweb By-laws. Are the archives under the same rules and regulations as the rest of us? I have been hearing all kinds of rumors and since I am new to the project, I am not sure where the "appropriate" place would be to ask this question, so will ask it here. I also get "lost" when messages are "snipped", so maybe I am not just not understanding all of this????? 3. Hi Alley, Several of us could make the corrections to VA files, including Harriet, Jeannie, Yvonne and me. We have to be careful about changing original information, or interpretations, or even changing a transcribers' work. In the case of a census transcription, did you contact the transcriber or proofreader? If this wording had been in the by-laws, the "delinking by the NC" could have been temporary, giving the the offender time to bring the site into compliance. "Porn" was an example in my message, not included in the proposal, because that was the example given to me by one of our board reps. Linda

    3. If the purpose of the archives is to always have info online for researchers, then shouldn't that info be corrected if what was submitted is incorrect and proof is offered for corrections? Two examples that I know of: 1) 1850 Shenandoah Co census lists George McWilliams as George Williams. SK Publication has McWms listed as Williams in the index and the info online duplicates the error. The proof is on the actual census page. I have a copy and can provide proof. 2) Linden Cemetery in Warren Co, VA gives incorrect date of birth for Annie Showers. I have a picture of her tombstone. I wrote to two different people about these errors. One reply was that the writer didn't know if the census online could be changed after it was online. I didn't receive a reply regarding the tombstone. The tombstone records of Linden Cemetery have now been copied to another website and the copy contains the same error. (The copying is an assumption on my part because if someone viewed the tombstone they would see the correct date. I think the submitted date of birth could be a typo.) Is it really impossible to correct errors in archives? Alley Blackford Shenandoah Co VAGenWeb CC alleyb@worldnet.att.net
