    1. Re: [VAGEN-L] Did we vote on this????
    2. Alley Blackford
    3. Linda and others, I really appreciate that my request did not become personal. It is my hope that all three proposed amendments are sponsored so that we can vote on all three. If that happens, then whatever the outcome happens to be, the opinions of the majority of the voters will be known. If those majority opinions are known, then whatever happens to and within USGW cannot be construed to have been caused by a few or caused by malcontents or caused by any reason or anyone other than those who voted. There are people within USGW who never speak out but do vote (I used to be one). I am not saying what I wish the outcome to be other than I hope that after the election results are known, the archived messages for the ALL list will change and replies will be, "Hey, the people voted and this is what the majority wanted." Wouldn't that be lovely? Not everyone will like the outcome of the election but maybe we can all be a bit more acceptable of the outcome knowing that we all had a chance to vote on every issue. I will be voting yes for VA to sponsor all three proposed amendments. However, that does not mean I will be voting yes on all three if they are voted on during the election. For those of you wishing to know more about the candidates, it is not necessary to sub to the ALL list. You can read the archived messages instead. Type in a candidates name and you can then get to know the candidate, how he/she responds to others, how he/she feels about an issue. Usually, the original query will appear on a reply made by a candidate. You can also sub to the Daily Board Show. However, the author does give her own opinions and is sometimes biased and is sometimes incorrect. But, you can then use a keyword to get more info from the archived messages. The DBS is also amusing and gives comic relief at times. 1. [VAGEN-L] Amendments to USGenWeb Project By Laws
    2. Freddie Spradlin
    3. There's been a motion to vote on whether or not VAGenWeb should sponsor one or more of the three proposed amendments to the USGenWeb By Laws. Before voting there may need to be discussion on the proposed amendments. Some CCs may want to ask for clarification on the meaning and/or purpose of a particular amendment. Before voting, there should be some agreement that a vote is in order, and whether voting should be by "secret ballot" or by ayes & nays on the list. Since VAGenWeb is such an informal group, there's not been a call for working out "set procedures" that I'm aware of. Regards, Freddie S.

    1. Re: [VAGEN-L] Did we vote on this????

    3. Freddie, The various proposed amendments are found by going to the USGenWeb page and clicking on "Official USGW Project Business" which will take you to "Proposed Amendments to the By Laws" which will take you to the actual proposals. A minimum of 5 states as co-sponsors is required before the amendment can be placed on the ballot. Can we have the choice of voting on whether or not we wish to be a sponsor? Linda, I'm not attempting to stir up controversy on this list nor am I asking anyone's opinion. I would just like to have the opportunity to vote on the issues. I have never had a problem visiting more than one site to find archives and I would not have a problem if someone added another Shenandoah Co site through ALGN or whatever it is called or any of the other organizations found on the web. In fact, I would welcome the help. Delinking the other archives did bother me since I had not bookmarked it and could not find it again. I think voting on the issues would be in the best interests of the USGenWeb Project. Once the results were known, we would all know how the majority feels about the issues and everyone would have had a chance to voice their opinion, if so desired, by voting. If the results favored you, then the entire project would know. This also applies to the other two issues/amendments. I wish to have the opportunity to voice my opinion on issues by voting. If I am the only CC requesting this, then I withdraw my plea. If there is at least one more, then I hope our wishes are treated with respect by allowing us the opportunity to vote. 1. Re: [VAGEN-L] Did we vote on this????
    2. Linda Lewis
    3. From what I understand, proposed by-law amendments need to be sponsored by x-amount of XXGenWeb's to be placed on the ballot for the annual election that's coming up in August. I haven't read the amendments thoroughly, but will give an opinion if anyone wants it. I do know that certain folks are trying to break up the USGenWeb Archives and put them into the control of the XXGenWeb's. I would not agree with that. Since starting the USGenWeb Archives in June 1996, I've fought many attempts to either destroy or split them up, for one purpose or another. The Archives, operating under much stricter guidelines than the USGenWeb county sites, etc., have been successful and we now have about 4 megs of textual data, and 27 gigs of scanned images - for permanent free storage. The people that are trying to change the USGenWeb Archives, by destroying or splitting, are not active in that project. 3. I know of no plans for a Project-wide election on the various amendments to the bylaws spawned by the seemingy endless controversy resulting from the delinking of the "second" Archives Project pages ... My impression is that any vote within VAGenWeb would be advisory in nature for our Regional Representative to the Advisory Board, and perhaps after some action by them, there might be a vote on an amendment. I've not been following too closely, since I get turned off by the vituperative messages on the USGENWEB-ALL mailing list and hit my "delete" button, FAST Regards, Freddie S. > >From the Daily Board Show came this announcement of voting.
