Surnames: Holmes, Milnes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gAC.2ACE/2743.1.1 Message Board Post: The town of Shenandoah, Va. was incorporated by an Act of the General Assembly on Feb. 12, 1884, under the names of Milnes for William Milnes, Jr. On Feb. 6, 1890, the name of Milnes was changed to Shenandoah. Page County, Va. was formed from Rockingham and Shenandoah Counties, Va., in 1831. The trown of Shenandoah was located in the part of Page County that was formed from Rockingham County. Rockingham County was formed from Augusta County, Va., by Act of the General Assembly in October 1777. Therefore, the area in which Shenandoah was later located was never in Frederick County, Va.
