I'm thinking now that they are brothers and perhaps Joseph came to Ohio later after Samuel was settled. Its documented in a few articles that I have that Samuel moved there in 1830. Anyway, there is a will of a Joseph Sample in 1853. Here is a neat index of the Miami Ohio Valley, this is where I found this information.
