Go to their site at http://dar.org/default.cfm and click on Patriot Lookup, under Features. You can ask for a free lookup of your soldier to see if he has ever had any descendants claim DAR membership based on his service. If so, you can then request, for a small fee, copies of their applications, which usually contain considerable genealogy.
