    1. Re: Carroll & Shue
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gAC.2ACE/2703.1 Message Board Post: It seems that Mary Ann was the daughter of Abraham Shoe, per her marriage bond. I did find an Abraham Shoe marrying a Susanna Gibbons in 1816, the right timing to be her father, in Shenandoah County. Then I found an Abraham marrying a widow in 1833. IF this is the same Abraham, that would mean that Susanna Gibbons Shoe probably died before the 1833 wedding. 1830 census has only 1 Abraham Shue. He is in Rockingham County, VA. He is 40-50 years old in 1830. He has a house full of children 5 boys: 1 under 5, 1 5-10, 2 10-15, 1 15-20 4 girls 2 under 5 2 5-10 2 women 20-30 In 1830, Mary Ann should be 12? (1830-1818), but if she was born before 1810, she could be one of the ones listed as 20-30?? But then it doesn't fit for her to be the child of an 1816 marriage...... Hmmm.... Per "Frederick County Marriage Bonds" by Hackett & Good p. 225 (Bond date may not be marriage date, but could be slightly earlier, as well as actual marriage date) 2 Jun 1835, James Carroll & Mary Ann Shoe, daughter of Abraham Shoe, the bondsman. p. 214 This may be the above Abraham, or his son, or no relation.... 9 Jul 1833, Abraham Shoe & Thursay Bateman, widow of John Bateman. Bondsman, Edwin Hart. (I don't find a marriage bond for John & Thursay Bateman.) Per "Frederick County Marriages" by Vogt & Kethley p. 55 lists Carrol, Daniel & Elizabeth Emett, 1 Dec 1791; minister Lewis Chastain Carroll, Colin & Ann Littler, 6 Sept 1792, min Wm Harvey Carroll, Daniel, & Elizabeth Emmitt, 29 Nov 1791; d. of Jacob & Barbara (is this the same as the above CARROL listing??) Carroll, Dempsey & Jane Arnold, 4 Jan 1822, min James Walls Carroll, James & Mary Ann Shoe, 2 Jun 1835, b. Abraham Shoe Carroll, Jesse & Genny Niutt, 18 Feb 1800, min James Walls Carroll, John & Philadelphia Ashby, 25 Jul 1822, min Thomas Littleton Carroll, William & Elizabeth Morgan, 16 Oct 1800; min Alexander Balmain p. 273 Carroll, Ann & Thomas Young, 16 Oct 1800, min Alexander Balmain Per "Shenandoah County Marriages" by Vogt & Kethley p. 195 Shoe, Abraham & Susanna Gibbons, 9 Apr 1816, bondsman, John Gibbons Show, Augustine & Dorothy Stickley, 18 Jun 1803, Bondsman, Christian Stover Shoe, Joseph & Margaret Trouberg, 4 Jun 1801: widow p. 291 Gibbons, Sarah & James Tribbet, 4 Jan 1816, daughter of Isaac (also lists Susannah, as above) p. 101 Gibbons, John & Elizabeth Keffer, 1 Jul 1810, daughter of John Keffer This marriage of John & Elizabeth is not the right time to be parents of Susanna, perhaps a brother? Or a second marriage? Could Susanna be related to Sarah Gibbons & Isaac? There are several Gibbons listed in "Historical Records of Old Frederick County, VA" by Dr. Wilmer Kerns, but none that connect to the above. They are all born mid 1700's. On p. 165-167 Dr. Kerns lists what seems to be the above "Emmitt/Emett" family as EMMART. He lists Jacob & Barbara EMMART as having a son Henry. The rest of the listings seems to be descendants of this Henry. 1850 census Rockingham Co. VA Shue, Abraham, 64, tanner, b. VA Shue, Susan, 56 (this fits the 1816 marriage, and eliminates this Abraham as being the one married to THursay Bateman...) Rebecca, 33 Mary, 21 (unlikely that they would have 2 daughters named Mary???- or could this be a granddaughter???) Samuel, 16 1830 also has an Abraham Shoe in Berkeley Co., VA Males 1 5-10 1 15-20 1 30-40 Females 1 15-20 (seems to fit your Mary Ann???) 1 30-40 Good Luck!
