Myers, 78, who played first trumpet with the Army Band and then taught music in the Fairfax County schools, died of cancer June 21, 1998 at his home in Clear Brook, Virginia. He moved there in the late 1980s from McLean. Mr. Myers served with the Army Band at Fort Myer from 1944 to 1962. He retired in 1981 from Longfellow Intermediate School in McLean and had also taught trumpet privately. He was a native of Kokomo, Indiana, who was a music graduate of Butler University. He received a second bachelor's degree, in education, from American University. He was a member of the Musicians Union. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Myers of Clear Brook; two sons, Lloyd Myers of Purcellville and Phillip Myers of Williamsburg, Va.; a sister; and four grandchildren. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MYERS, GEORGE WILLIAM (Age 78) Of Clearbook, VA, on Sunday, June 21, 1998 at his home. He served in the Army Band and was bugler at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery from 1945-62. Surviving is his wife Betty Bates Myers; two sons, Lloyd Myers of Purcellville, VA and Phillip Myers of Williamsburg, VA; sister, Harriett Wolfe of Mesa, AZ and four granddaughters. Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorials are to be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
