"Frederick County was created on 15 December 1738 out of northern portions of Augusta and Orange counties. It began to function as a political unit around 1743. The newly organized area was named in honor of Frederick, Prince of wales, father of King George III. Today the county encompasses 435 square miles, but at its inception it included a much wider span of area on the Virginia frontier. From its periphery were formed a number of counties over ensuing decades: Hampshire(1753), Berkeley (1772), Dunmore(i.e. Shennadoah)(1772), Clarke(1839), Warren (1836), and the municipality of Winchester." If you are searching the Frederick County area specifically maybe you might want to look at records in one of these counties depending on the time frame you need.....Happy searching and good luck....Sherry in Texas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
