Hi Listers, I am trying to determine if the surname HOCKMAN and HICKMAN in the Shenanadoah Valley area are both names from the German family of HECKMAN. I have found the spelling HOCKMAN in Shenandoah County and I have found both HOCKMAN and HICKMAN spellings in Frederick County; however, there were fewer HICKMAN spellings than HOCKMAN. Are these two families connected at the root or are they totally different families?-----------Oh, hum---------------------Any help would be greatly appreciated.
