Surnames: Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/gAC.2ACE/5874 Message Board Post: am at an almost dead end trying to find the ancestors of William C. Smith who married (I am fairly certain) Catherine Link. Catherine was the daughter of Abraham Link and Elizabeth Funkhouser. They settled in the area now known as Arkansaw. They had a number of children including Amos, Ephraim, Angus, William Calhoun, Victoria, John, Abraham. Catherine's ancestry (Links and Funkhousers) is well documented, but WIlliam's is a mystery. In the 1850 census they are already married and have one child (John). At that point William lists his occupation as a carpenter, and I have other records indicating where they lived, what he did etc. He may have possibly lived in Shenandoah County, Virginia and traveled to Hardy County with the Links and Funkhouser families...a guess. I have not been able to locate a marriage bond or record yet. Any information or leads to his ancestry would be greatly appreciated. Joe Brennskag
Hello, Is there anyone researching the LEACH name in Frederick Co VA? Best regards, Lilly Martin

He's medium to tall, silver-haired, slender, well- pressed and starched. His voice is expressive but modulated and his texts are carefully chosen. Much in demand locally. FWIW. FREDERICKSBURG CIVILIANS MAKE PROMISE NOVEMBER TWENTY-SECOND 1862 General Burnside had made a promise for destruction to civilians living in the city of Fredericksburg on the 21st of November. He found his order rescinded by General Sumner the following day as the Army of the Potomac encamped across the Rappahannock River. Union General Sumner told the mayor of Fredericksburg that their plan of destruction was changed. He will not be firing upon them at all. This agreement was made in exchange for a promise of 'no hostile demonstrations' from the townspeople of Fredericksburg, Virginia on the 22nd of November in 1862. This was something the majority of them could live with. Was this promise kept the the citizens? Would this have been the 1st Battle of Fredericksburg? You are encouraged to share your thoughts with our list PLEASE! glenn

This couple listed on the 1850 census: George A. 34 wagon maker, Frances 25, George P. 4, Elenora 2. You might try to find the above couples on the census, wills and land deeds for Frederick Co. VA. I really do not "do" PA records, so I can say what you might find in that location. Good luck.

I've also "found" Zachariah Wilson, his wife Elizabeth Pingly and two sons. Still looking for Zachariah's parents. There seem to be other instances of Wilson/Pingly marriages in about the same time frame & place (sibblings, cousins or ?), but I've not been able to find any reference to names of parents. Names may be burried somewhere in the actual marriage documents/"church" archives (Pastor's report to "higher" on who he married?) I'm not in a position to search for those. Still stuck too, will share anything else I find.
