Chocy, I've seen it spelled Brew/Brue/Brwe/Brewe. Have not considered Bruhl. There are a lot of Brew names in Ireland, especially a lot in Clare County. There is a Brew One Name Study website with a lot of information but can't find anything relating to my family in early Virginia. They claim origins from the Isle of Man. According to the 1880 census, Henry Brew, Jr. said his father was born in Ireland, but don't really have any proof of this. I don't believe Brewer or Brewster are related to this Brew surname. There was only one BREW on the 1810 and 1820 census in Rockingham County, VA and that was Henry BREW Sr. Would like to find out where he came from when he went to Virginia, and, of course, where he immigrated from. Hello, I am new to this list and am trying to find ancestors named BREW and SUBERLY. Henry BREW and Catherine SUBERLY were married in Frederick Co., VA 18 Apr 1791. Henry BRAHAN and Mary SUBERLY were married in Frederick Co., VA 20 Aug 1797. Henry BOWMAN and Susannah SUBERLY were married in Frederick Co., VA 01 Aug 1790. Henry BREW and Catherine SUBERLY are my direct line and I am having trouble finding either of these names in this time period. I found a chancery court record dated 1799 from Frederick Co., VA concerning Henry BREW and Achillis BARNET. Henry BREW evidently is a miller and there is a dispute about the amount of flour and barrels for the flour that are owed. "Henry BREW/BRUE is the occupier of a merchant mill belonging to Lewis Mill (could be Naill?) on Opeckon in Co. of Frederick". Frederick EARHART is employed at the mill at this time. Henry BREW is on the 1820 census in Rockingham Co. I cannot find him on the 1830 or 1840 census. On the 1850 census, Catherine Suberly BREW is living with whom I believe is a son, Thomas BREW, also a miller, in Rockingham Co. Catherine Suberly BREW died in 1854 and is buried at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Singer's Glen, Rockingham Co., VA. I believe another son, Henry Brew, Jr., had a mill called "Brew's Mill" in Augusta Co., VA. Could anyone possibly tell me where Henry BREW was in 1799 in Frederick Co., VA from the chancery court description? Is anyone researching any of these families? Thanks very much for any information anyone can provide. Kay W. Gavin Minnesota

I am trying to locate Magnus McDonald and some people list him as a son of James (from Bryan) and others as a son of Randal. I haven't been able to locate a will that lists him as a son of anyone. I find a will of a James McD that does not list Magnus as a son. My hunch is that Magnus may not be from this family, and that putting him there may go back to a mistake made a long time ago. To make matters worse, there's a lot of evidence for two Magnuses - one from VA, one from NC. Am also looking to see how Clayborn McDonald (b. 1799) fits into this. I am descended from a James McDonald, also of unknown descent. I am related to Clayborn and believe I could be related to Magnus, but that's not yet known. Anyone willing to share and figure this all out? I'm not interested in what's been pulled from LDS websites or from published or online genealogies unless there is documentation of proof, as there are just too many errors in what I've seen so far. Thanks Dan McDonald
