I have the index entry for this marriag; however, the bride's and groom's parents are not shown. This is my gr granfather: **William D. Lee married to Henrietta Hess on 28 February 1842 in Frederick Co.** I have the following info on William: b.1818 in VA, d. 5 Oct 1907 and buried at Burnt Factory Methodist Church in Stephenson. He was a stone mason and alleged to have erected the stone wall around the graveyard at Hopewell Friends Meeting House. Census records show him living (all his adult life) in Clarke County, Va. He was a member of the 122nd Virginia Militia, Company A (Clarke County) during the Civil War and was discharged with the rank of Private. I would dearly like to find his father's identity if at all possible. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! RBJ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If anyone here has a Jacob White 1789-1862 who married Elizabeth Duncan 1792-1870 and had issue which included a daughter Mary Jane who married in 1841 in their database of WHITE families, I'd like to compare notes. I don't believe Jacob is part of the Robert White line, but I don't see another White line in Frederick or Hampshire. Sorry, no luck :-( It is too early for the other books, and you probably have a case of 1) they went to another city to marry (like Philadelphia) or 2) they were married by a minister at home. You might try looking for a minister of thier denomination during that time, and seeing if a church has kept the records from early ministers. Most will keep the records, even if there wasn't a church at the time the records were made. If you know the family was, say Presbyterian, in 1850, they may have been 100 years prior. Many of the early Frederick COunty settlers came from Chester and near by counties of PA, those surrounding Philadelphia. You might try there as well. The Handley Archives in Winchester may have info as well. Good Luck! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. She married Elza Gallagher on 16 Jan 1838.They listed a John Groves as "inst.", whatever that meant. They weremarried in Belmont Co., Ohio. In applying for her husband's Civil Warrecords, she mentions as witnesses, Jacob and Isaac Groves of GuernseyCounty. The document was dated 1865 and states that she had been aresident of Guernsey County for 45 years, which matches census data. -- In the 1870 census my ancestor, Nancy (Groves) Gallagher, lists herself as being born in Pennsylvania, but at the time she was living in OxfordTownship, Guernsey County, Ohio. In all the censuses before 1870, sheuses the name of Nancy, but in the 1880 census she is listed with her 2remaining children as Susan Gallagher. There is no question it is her,but I can't figure the name change. Anyway, she lists herself as beingborn in Pennsylvania and that both her parents also were born inPennsylvania. A person I believe to be Nancy's brother also is listed as living in Oxford Township. His name is Isaac Groves and he was born about 1828 inOhio with both parents being born in Pennsylvania. His wife is Jane C.who was born in 1850. Isaac and Jane's children are: - Elmer born 1874 - Emma born 1875 - Charles born 1878 - Homer born Jul 1879/80 ------- I have found what I consider a strong possibilty as the father of my Nancy Groves. In the 1850 census I find the following. in Pultney Twp. Belmont Co. Ohio all living in same household. John Grove 59 Grainer born Pa. Eliza 39 " N.Y.(obviously a 2nd marriage) Farney 4 Oh Joshua 2 Oh Lewis 4/12 Oh William Harvey 22 Oh Delila Harvey 24 Oh (she is supposedly the daughter of a Galen Grove according to genealogy forum I have seen) Mary Harvey 3 Oh Catherine Harvey 14 Oh Jacob Grove 24 Miner Oh Isaac " 22 Miner Oh Jackson " 17 Miner Oh This Isaac matches age of the Guernsey Co. Isaac I sent you earlier. John Grove matches Nancy's marriage record and father's place of birth, and Jacob and Isaac match her pension military record as witnesses. There is a marrige of Jackson Groves and a Julia Chance in Guernsey Co., OH on 15 Jun 1860. and in 5 Aug 1878 a marriage of Jackson to Anna Hicks. Delila Groves married William Harvey around 1846. You also find Delila marrying Benjamin Chance 20 Oct 1853 in Guernsey Co. Ohio. -- I found Jackson Groves living in the 1900 census with a grandson of my Nancy Groves Gallagher b-1820 in Pa. She married Elza Gallagher. Jackson was listed as an Uncle to him thus it would seem to substantiate my listing I sent you previously. Change Date: 24 Jun 2004 at 16:08:35 Father: GROVES b: ABT 1793 in , , PA Marriage 1 Elza GALLAGHER b: ABT 1813 Married: 16 Jan 1838 in Belmont Co., Ohio Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
