    1. WILLIAM WILKIN Orphans/Some GODFEY WILKINS family members
    2. Dee Ann, Thank you for your new postings. I am a GOCHENOUR and RITTER/RUTTER reseacher and have the "History of The Descendants of JACOB GOCHENOUR" by Robert Lee Evans. I am posting the following WILKIN information from that book in hopes that it might help a WILKIN/WILKINS researcher keep the different WILKIN/WILKINS straight. Page 31 ANN GOCHENOUR daughter of Joseph married 26 oct 1812 JACOB WILKIN, son of GODFREY and CATHERINE LAYMAN WILKIN. Children: ISAAC WILKIN born 10 Jul 1813 EMANUEL WILKIN born 23 Jan 1820 LYDIA WILKIN born 20 Aug 1826 REBECCA WILKIN (no brithday given) JACOB WILKIN and ANNA GOCHENOUR WILKIN lived on a 100 acre farm on Stony Creek near Lantz Mill, Virginia. Many descendants of this couple are set forth in pages 1084-87 of the "History of the Descendants of JOHN HOTTEL" by Rev. W. D. HUDDLE and wife. Page 33 RACHEL GOCHENOUR daughter of Joseph married GODFREY WILKIN 5 Jan 1818 the son of GODFREY WILKIN and CATHERINE LAYMAN. The "Hottel Genealogy" by Rev. W. D. HUDDLE an dwife states on page 1087 the RACHEL GOCHENOUR married FREDERICK WILKIN. The marriage bone states "GODFREY". He appears in various records sometimes as "GODFREY" and sometimes as "FREDERICK". Perhaps his name was GODREY FREDERICK WILKIN. Children: JOSEPH WILKIN CATHARINE WILKIN ELIZABETH WILKIN JONATHAN WILKIN ANNA WILKIN HENRY WILKIN SAMUEL WILKIN RACHEL was one of the younger children of her father, JOSEPH GOCHENOUR, for her marriage bond says she was a ward of JACOB OTT which implies she was under 18 years of age when she married. Her father had died in 1808 or 09 and JACOB OTT had been appointed guardian of her sister BARBARA and of RACHEL. In the settlement of her father's estate, Shen. Will Book R, page 102, it is state money was paid to GODFRIED WILKIN for his wife RACHEL's share. Also, RACHEL GOCHENOUR WILKING received 27 acres of her father JOSEPH's land by a court order in 1825. The deed at Shenandoah Will Book EE, page 120, show the land ato be along the northern portion of the original GOCHENOUR land adjacent to the land grant of 400 acres obtained by the ORIGIANLA WILKIN SETTLERS. Page 4 The names of some other neighbors do occur on the lists. MATTHIAS and MARGT. WILKINS owned 400 acres on the northeast side of JACOB'S land. Also, GEORGE and CHRISTINA WISMAN had a child MAGDALENE baptised Nov. 4, 1773 and JOHN and CATHARINE WISMAN their child CATHARINE on May 15, 1774. These families were probably Lutherans since the lists are in PETER MUHLENBURG's handwriting. June 17th 1787-ELIOT RUTHERFORD and RUTH WILKINS married by Rev. Christian Streit as recorded from his diary July 19, 1785 to November 28, 1788.

Could be the marriage bond "Sarah Taylor & David Allen" dated 23 Sep 1808. 2. son John B. Taylor 3. daughter Catherine G. TAYLOR , could be the Catherine G. Taylor married to Thomas Marshall 24 Mar 1819. so perhaps the sister-in-law listed in Benj. Taylor's will Nancy was the wife of his other brother Eben Taylor.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/gAC.2ACE/2691 Message Board Post: I am looking for the maiden name of Jacob Sowers Sr.. He was belived to be the emigrate, born in Germany about 1710, died in Winchester, Frederick Co. VA 1781. The name of his wife at that time was given as Mary. We have been looking for her maiden name for many years. Their children were: 1. Jacob Sowers Jr. born c1742 could be in present day Frederick Co. VA m. Isabella Hampton, died 1822 Frederick Co. VA. Their marriage bond, doesn't exist, she named in father's will. 2. John Sowers born c1744 could be in present day Frederick Co. VA m. Jane Knight, died in 1813 Frederick Co. VA. Their marriage bond, doesn't exist, she named in father's will. 3. Daniel Sowers Sr. born c1748 married Catherine.........?(now believe could be CRUM) d. 1815 Frederick Co. VA. This is my double line of Sowers. Their marriage bond doesn't exist, hope Katy Crum mentioned in the will of Anthony Crum, is my ancestor. 4. Elizabeth Sowers b. c1750 m. John Campbell, d. 1809 Frederick Co. VA. The line now have new information. 5. Susanna Sowers b. c1752 Frederick Co. VA m. ............Williams. The new information I now have which might give a hint as to the maiden name of above Mary, wife of Jacob Sowers Sr., comes from the will of her grandson John CAMPBELL, son of above Elizabeth Sowers & John Campbell. Her husband was born in Scotland. Their son John's will dated 28 Mar 1819, probated 6 Apr 1819, His wife is not mentioned in his will, but he was married to Dolitha CATLETT on 10 Mar 1803. I have only her mother's name was Nancy. I do not have her maiden name. Second person mentioned in his will--stated as being HIS COUSIN--Lucy Stephenson (wife of Wm.) Their marriage Lucy CATLETT & Wm. Stephenson on 26 Feb 1816 Frederick Co. VA. I know that the parentage of said Lucy--her father Harry/Henry Catlett married to Miram CALMES. So if John & Lucy really were cousins, then I am looking for the maiden name of Mary (wife of Jacob Sowers) as being a Catlett or Calmes. If you can limitate one of these surname, I would appreciate a posting. Both surnames were living in early Frederick Co. VA, as was said Jacob Sowers Sr. Thank you for your time.
