Can you verify their middle initials as in the census with any other records? It was Hugh C. Rush and Raymond E. McDaniel in the census. FWIW: Shawnee, VA is just SE of Winchester, which is only a few miles from the WV border.

The marriage record said Brooks Hawk when actually it is Brook Hawks. What a difference an "s" makes. I have been working on that for about 3 days and could not find the record. The data is in fact Hugh and Virginia. On her marriage applcation (1950) to Hugh, Virginia (divorced) said that her father was Brooks L. Hawk and her mother was Effie Mae Chadwick. I have never found either of her parents in any census record. In the 1930 Census for Frederick County Virginia, Hugh Rush, 7, was living next door to a Raymond McDaniel also 7. Could they be the same two guys who both married Virginia Hawk? In her OBIT (1988), it stated that she had a son Raymond McDaniel Jr. who was deceased? When she died she was married to Hugh Rush. I am trying to (1) find Virginia's parents, and (2) find the parents of Raymond McDaniel Sr. I think I have found the SSDI for Sr. but having a hard time proving any SSDI for Jr. I have access to the OBIT of MaDaniel Sr. which should lead me to his parents and maybe his son and any further marriages. Thanks for responding and if you have any more ideas on 1 and 2 above I sure would appreciate any help. Dick

Here is one possibility but if this is she, I don't know how she got from Smyth Co. to Frederick Co. Around 1944 I believe the Raymond McDaniel listed in the 1930 census married a Virginia Hawk who may have been born in South Carolina. They had one son, Raymond, Jr. I have not been able to locate Virginia Hawk in any census. From her marriage record to Hugh, she claimed to be born around 1923 in Beaufort, South Carolina. Raymond Sr. and Virginia apparently divorced between 1944 and 1950 when Virginia married Hugh Rush. Any help on further information on Raymond or Virginia would be appreciated. Thanks, Dick Rush

I believe Amanda's last name was Jackson, but the name Brown is also a possibility. Nicholas and Amanda appear on the 1860 Fredercik CO. census with a child, Alfred age 4. So they probably married between 1850 & 1855. Thank you for your time and assistance.
