APPARENTLY, his father's name was also WALTER. (I can't say I'm absolutly convinced as I've been given incorrect info about him before) . According to the Arkansas 1900 cencus he was born in Virginia and so was his father. Walter S.B. was born Oct 1865. His mother born in New Jersey. I'm told his mother's last name was Scott. And he's a descendant from Pocahontas (at least that jives w the Scott) I had been told he had a sister named Ida but that was recently corrected to ANN. So , having heard it was Ann instead of Ida, I decided to take another look at some notes I took years ago on the 1870 Franklin county cencus. What I found was a 40 yr old Walter Bernard apparently living alone in Rocky Mount Township (unusual for a man that age in those times) and a little Walter of the right age (within a year) and a little Ann living in a Bernard household also in Rocky Mount. Well, actually I can't tell from my notes if these are children of a John Chitwood who apparently is the husband of Ruth Bernard. But I know from reading the VAFRANKL archives that Robert and Sarah Bernard had a son WALTER that married an ABIGAIL HUMBRICK at age 44 (date doesn'texactly jive w cencus but is prtett clear the census takers weren't terribly carefull about ages) So I can only say I suspect I have found the right branch of the family tree. I don't have alot to go on. Wlater Scott Bernard ran away from home at age 13 and apparently never went home. So the only cencus he would be on with his parents is 1870. But his sister Ann would likely have stayed home and I know she married an Emmet Allen (he was a banker or was it doctor? in Mobile Alabama) So a list of marriages of these children might nail the question. --WebTV-Mail-20042-1999 Content-Disposition: Inline Content-Type: Message/RFC822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7Bit Received: from smtpin-102-6.bryant.webtv.net (209.240.198.43) by storefull-102.iap.bryant.webtv.net with WTV-SMTP; Mon, 12 Feb 2001 06:41:02 -0800 (PST) Received: by smtpin-102-6.bryant.webtv.net (WebTV_Postfix) id 889AA103; Mon, 12 Feb 2001 06:41:01 -0800 (PST) Delivered-To: leefinds@webtv.net Received: from pompano.ithink.com (pompano.ithink.com [207.190.0.12]) by smtpin-102-6.bryant.webtv.net (WebTV_Postfix) with ESMTP id BBDC91CF for <LeeFinds@webtv.net>; Mon, 12 Feb 2001 06:41:00 -0800 (PST) Received: from davidwoods (sandbar121.ithink.net [207.190.11.121]) by pompano.ithink.com (Rockliffe SMTPRA 3.4.6) with SMTP id <B0012563492@pompano.ithink.com> for <LeeFinds@webtv.net>; Mon, 12 Feb 2001 09:30:14 -0500 Message-ID: <002c01c09501$9e7e5800$790bbecf@davidwoods> From: "Bambi Woods" <bambi@ithink.net> To: "Susan Herrmann" <LeeFinds@webtv.net> References: <10556-3A86C91F-657@storefull-107.iap.bryant.webtv.net> Subject: Re: Family of Walter Bernard Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 09:39:33 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.50.4522.1200 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.50.4522.1200 Susan- Please write to me reference Abigail and Walter Bernard. I have a great deal of information on this family and may be able to help you. To my knowledge, Walter Bernard was never married previous to Abigail Hambrick. The children that are listed for them are Abigail's. The later children are Walters, but since some were born previous to their marriage it is difficult to sort out which children were positively Walters. Who is the greatgrandfather you are tracing?
