    2. George Washington Lavinder, asking for any information about his death.  I have two stories. 1. He went to a political meeting on crutches, his son Lewis was with him. A fight broke out and George was killed.  Later Lewis went and found the man that killed his father and Lewis killed him, then he fled to West Va. 2.The article in the Salem-Ledger on June, 18, 1870. Headlines- Fatal Affray at Rocky Mount, VA. A George Lavinder on the 6th of June, 1870 was in Rocky Mount over an incident about a dog. Other's involved include Otto Goplin, Justice Henderson, a Bowles man. George died from a cracked skull the next night. George had a son with him. He left behind a wife and six children George Washington Lavinder was born about 1820 in Franklin County, Va. and died June, 1870 in Franklin County, Va., he was the son of William and Rachel Parcell Lavinder. He married Sarah Ann (Sallie) Stegall (Stegal,Steagal,Stagal) Jan. 1851 in Franklin County, Va. Sarah Ann Stegall was the daughter of Drinkard and Jane Warren Stegall. Other info: George Washington Lavinder served in the 19th Va. Infantry in the Civil War- No documents to back this up.
