The Estate Inventory of Francis BELCHER 21 Aug 1822 4. The Estate Inventory of Phebe SWINNEY 11 Oct 1822 5. The bond for the marriage of Joseph SWINNEY to Phebe BELCHER 4 Jul 1791. 6. The will of Matthew CABANISS of Nottoway Co, Va written 6 Jun 1789 where he names his daughters Mary BELCHER dec'd and Phebe BELCHER. I have corresponded with other BELCHER researchers, and we think (but no proof) that Francis BELCHER's first wife was Mary CABINESS, sister to Phebe. We also think that since at that time it was illegal for a man to marry his dead wife's sister. That would be the only reason for the marriage to take place in NC. Elynn Boss
