You have the children of German Rakes and Mary Ann Allen that I did not have. You have one of their children as Sarah E. Rakes, b.1853. I also have a Sarah E. Rakes, b.1858, dau. of Samuel Jackson Rakes Jr. and Ruth Ann Thomas. Are there two Sarah E. Rakes? This is one of the cases where I used the World Family Trees as sources. I wrote a note to myself in my FTM file: Souce: Ancestry.com WFT "Tuel/Riggin/Short/Martin Trees" and "Boyd Trees" I have copied and saved "Boyd Trees" need to copy and verify later. Just checking 1860 Patrick Co. census, Samuel J. Rakes has a Sarah, age 2, born abt. 1867-68 and German has no Sarah at all. However, looking at "Sonny Griffith's" One World Tree, he has this under the name of Sarah E. Rakes: Sources: Title: Patrick County, Virginia, Birth Records 1853-1869, Vol I Author: Barbara C. Baughan and Betty A.Pilson Publication: Willow Bend Books, Westminister, MD Repository: Call Number: Media: Book Page: Section I, p. 160 So, it looks like the name came from a published source, if it is correct, Sarah E. may have died before 1860. Otherwise, it may be a mistake. I'd have to see the book. I don't see her in the Patrick Co. death records posted at: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/patrick/vitals/dr1853.txt German Rakes and family are in Floyd in 1870 with wife, Mary, children; John R., William Alex, Louisa, Judith ?Vig-? and there is a ?7? year old named Daniel that that I just added to my list. It looks like the widow, Mary is in Floyd in 1880, with children; John, William A., Luisa, Judith, and a boy named, "Soda," age 16. Soda must be Daniel. They are living with Jeremiah & Jane ?Price?
