    1. [VAFRANKL] Snow Creek - Pig(g) River

    3. Am a bit late, but had shut down for three days. A map of Franklin Co. by a man named Bucholtz as it was in 1859 is in the VA State Library. Reproductions appear in several books, but I have it from the 1787 Personal Property Tax List publication by Yantis and Love. Snow Creek is in the southeast corner of the county and it flows southwest nearly all the way to the Henry line. It has many branches coming off from each side. The origin of the creek itself seems to be out of the Pig River (with one g) over in Pittsylvania County. Before reaching Franklin there is a big branch which flows south on the east side of a small mountain and that branch was named Turkey Cock Branch. There aren't any towns or settlements on Snow Creek with names, but there are three black dots along the creek just a mile or two apart, which I just suppose represented small communities in 1859. Hope this helps or at least adds to the big picture. Bill
