Dear Friends, I have been a member of the Franklin County Genealogy Society, then it went to Franklin County Heritage Society and now Franklin County Historical Society. My interest mostly is genealogy but you need some of the history to understand wills, deeds, courts etc. etc. I left Franklin County on May 8th, my son was in a flash fire, We lived at UVA for 2 months , then we brought him to the local hospital for about a month. He died July 27, 2000. Well, I have just recently started back and calling to see what I can do. I know it has been an awful year: *I lost my son *Beverly Merritt lost her husband and aunt *Edith lost a loved one *others who have suffered tragedy *Dorothy Ramsey Cundiff lost her husband. Now, I am back home, I was going to try and help a little but when I called the library today, they informed me that the library is closed and the locks have been changed. Noone seems to know what is going on. I would like to ask you a few questions: 1. Would you be interested if we just went back to the genealogy society. We had wonderful meetings, the room full of people, we talked with one another, we went on little field trips, I remember Rebecca and I sit inthe car because we couldn't walk down to the grave but we looked up and here come a big, big buck running into the cornfields. Then we found a tombstone up against a tree. _____________yes_____________no 2.We could go back to meeting at the Franklin County Library board room, we use to fill the room. I enjoyed thoses days. _____________yes______________no 3. Had you rather stay with the historical society and try and build it back up again? _____________yes______________no 4.Is your interest more in history or genealogy or both. _________history___________genealogy_____________both 5.When the genealogy society got going, it was great, everyone got along , we did field trips, ate lunch together and made new friends. Do you want the genealogy society back? ______________Yes_________________no 6. Would you like to meet every month or everyother month.(if you choose genealogy) __________________Every month__________________Every other month. 7. How often would you like the newsletter printed? WE can fill it with queeries, history facts of the county, stories from members etc. _________________once a month___________________every other month ________________every three months. Please let me know, I love doing genealogy and learning of the history of the county but this is the second time in 3 or 4 years the historical society has had lots of problems. I don't like problems, contraversy, I think we are all adults and should be able to work together for one cause. If something doesn't go the way you think it should, lets talk about it, there is no point in fighting over it when you can sit quietly and discuss it like adults.
