    2. Dear Researchers: Seeking leads on Silas PAYNE and his wife Mary SAUNDERS PAYNE of Roanoke/Franklin Co., VA. Silas PAYNE, b. abt. 1820, Va. and married to Mary SAUNDERS, b. abt. 1826 and married on 24 Jan 1847, Roanoke Co., Va.   Silas is believed to have been born Boones Mill, VA. and was a member of the Church of the Brethren.   Mary SAUNDERS PAYNE's mother was Nancy SAUNDERS possibly of Franklin/Bedford Co., VA. The parents or relatives of Silas PAYNE may be Isham and Patsy PAYNE of Roanoke Co., VA.  Silas served as surety for children of Isham PAYNE:  Peggy, Nancy, Richard PAYNE.   Isham is a descendent of the Joseph & Phoebe PAYNE line. Silas and Mary PAYNE were recorded in the 1850 Census for Roanoke Co., VA and listed on the marriage certificate of their son William A. PAYNE in 1868.  This is last known record of Silas and Mary.
