Dick; yes name of Shadrack(sic) Turner is among the list from petition of 27 Oct. 1785 from residents of Henry County. James Turner, William Turner, are on the same list. These petitions are in loose files somewhere in Library of VA. My source is p. 192, "The Virginia Genealogist", Vol. 24, 1980, John Frederick Dorman, Editor. In 1989 a cousin of mine went to LVA and persisted until he found (& was allowed to make copies of) Bedford petitions which had the name of Hunt on them. Some petitions have original signatures but other papers are just copies all in the same hand. Franklin County was formed in 1786 from Bedford and a part of Henry.... which made some of the petitioners happy. There are several histories of Franklin but the only one I've read is the Bicentennial volume by John S. Salmon et al. As you would expect, it covers Bedford's earliest days, which includes Campbell County too. Somebody on this Franklin web will most certainly tell you if Shadrach is in there. I sure don't know & don't remember. But the book is in the Historical Society and I'd assume the Library has it too. Hope this helps you get started.
