Please forgive my confusion of the various William Hodges'. But I really need some assistance in unscrambling them. We start off on Oct 23rd, with William of Goochland Co d: 1728, with three sons: Robert, John and William. A posting of Mar 26th (William Hodges) indicates two William Hodges' in early Franklin Co and that the s/o Isham is likely the one called William, Jr. The posting of Mar 27th indicates Pt 2 of William Hodges and lists William's children as John High Top, William, Squire, Reuben, Lewis, Susannah, Milly, Lucy and Judith. The children of which William - Isham son, Jr. or the William, Sr. that disappeared in 1780 or ? Then posting of Mar 31 (Pt 3 - children of Wm Jr and Squire). Wm Jr's children are Josiah, Andrew, son, John, Elisha, William Jr, Armistead, Winney, Albert, Marsha and Hannah. Squire's children are son, dtr, dtr, dtr, son and Cynthia. Which Wm Jr has these children? Approximate dates of birth and death for the various William's and their wives names may help me connect the dots. In other words, how do they all connect under one umbrella or do they? Thanks.
William in Goochland d. 1728 probable son William, but we only have two records of him before he disappears. Then we go to Franklin County. Two there. One disappears about 1780. The other dies in 1817 and names a wife Milly and son William in his will. I think he is probably the son of Isham, but nobody can be sure. If so he was probably born about 1751. This William's children are John High Top etc. and William Jr (sometimes called William Piper) (married Amey Hall) with sons Josiah etc. Wm. Jr (be careful about Jr and Sr because a man can be called both names depending on the time period) was born about 1771-74 and died after the 1850 Census. You only know about half of it. There is also a William (Lewis), William Joel's son William (Chestnut) and so on but these some a little later. Hard to say how they are all related. I think the record suggests that Isham and Robert were brothers -- we match 37/37 and 26/26 on the known descendants. If William is the son of Isham, and I am right about Joab and Lemuel being sons of John High Top, they are -4 to Isham's descendants and -4 to one another, so that seems unlikely genetically.
