    2. PHELPS: John Phelps Jr., b. Bedford Co. VA, son of Lieut. John PHELPS (Rev. War) & first wife Jemima TURNER. John Jr. d. intestate ca. 1815 (estate settlement 1815-1818), lived in northeast Franklin Co., land located on Stanton River, owned these slaves in 1815: boy Joe, boy Frederick, woman Jane, woman Chain, woman Milly and her child Nicy, girl Cairy, boy Edmond, girl Betsy, girl Lotty, boy Sam, and girl Scilla. I suspect John Phelps Jr. died as a result of the War of 1812, but no proof. John PHELPS Jr.'s first marriage ca. 1785 (probably a Bedford Co. VA woman): 1) unkn. (HELP!) who must have died bef. 1804, 4 children from this union: Mary "Polly" PHELPS m. 1805 John K. FERGUSON (to Monroe Co. KY); Nancy PHELPS m. 1809 James Hooper BURNETT (Bedford Co. VA); Sophia Sophronia PHELPS b. 1793 m. 1815 Moses FERGUSON b. 1794 (to Monroe Co. KY); and Susannah PHELPS m. 1819 Christopher "Kit" BOARD (to Hart Co. KY). I descend through Moses & Sophia (PHELPS) FERGUSON and their son (my gg-grandfather) the Rev. Sparrel P. FERGUSON (1818-1888) m. Charlotte T. HARRIS in Monroe Co. KY. After the death of first unkn. wife, John PHELPS JR. married: 2) Mary "Polly" FERGUSON (sister of above John K. Ferguson & Moses Ferguson); as a widow, Mary PHELPS lived until aft. 1870, in Bonbrook and Cooper's Post Office communities; 3 children from this union: Permelia "Milly" PHELPS m. 1819 William Greer HEPTINSTALL. Richard T. PHELPS (Methodist minister) m. 1828 Bethany Ellis THURMAN (to Cumberland Co. KY, after Richard's death, Bethany m. 2) Joseph R.
