Cousins & Friends: >From a cousin & Franklin County researcher comes the following re: the possible meaning of "fire eater:" "As for the 'Fire eaters' name - I know that I read somewhere that this name came from the division's propensity to close rapidly on the enemy position such that they were at very close range when the first volley of fire came -- such that they were close enough to eat the fire from the black powder muzzle loading guns."
