To Tom Sandman and Ruby Wallace and the Wright, Franklin, and Fauquier County Lists: This is in reply to Tom's query regarding Jesse Wright and is being sent to Ruby, who has an interest in this family as well, and also to the Wright, Franklin County, and Fauquier County lists for their information. Over the last several months I have put together the following which goes beyong what I had sent Tom and Ruby in my prior emails. My records now list Jesse Wright as Jesse R. Wright and possibly the son of 1845 (year of death) John Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, (place of death) and Mary (Wray) Wright and grandson of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, and Mary (Grant) Wright, and great grandson of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Bronaugh) (Darnell) Wright. This identification is based on circumstantial evidence as follows. The 1793 Personal Property Tax List for Franklin County, Virginia, listed John Wright with one white tithe and the1794 List had John Wright with two white tithes, indicating the attainment by a son of the age of 16 and thus that son's birth between March 29, 1777, and April 7, 1778. The 1798 Personal Property Tax List for Franklin County listed John Wright with three white tithes and the 1799 Tax List had John with two white tithes, indicating the removal of a son from the household. Marriage was the typical reason for removal and the marriage record of Jesse Wright and Elizabeth Crawford was dated on March 21, 1799, at Franklin County, Virginia, with George Wright as surety. The only George Wright living in Franklin County at that time was 1843 George Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, a son of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, and if my identification is correct, an uncle of Jesse Wright. The age of 21 or 22 is consistent with the time of birth of that first son of John Wright in 1777 or 1778. The 1800 and 1801 Franklin County Personal Property Tax Lists had Jesse Wright with one white tithe and then he is no longer listed, indicating his probable removal from Franklin County, Virginia, to another area. Ruby Wallace stated that the tombstone of Elizabeth (Crawford) Wright listed her as the wife of Jesse R. Wright and that the book James Dyer: Descendants And Allied Families stated that Jesse R. Wright and Elizabeth (Crawford) Wright were in South Carolina by 1808. Ruby further stated that Jesse R. Wright resided in 1830 at Carroll County, Georgia, near to Hiram Wright. That Hiram Wright was a son of 1830 William Wright of Franklin County, Virignia, and grandson of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, and if my identification is correct, a cousin of Jesse R. Wright. The combination of progression from father's household to his own household on marriage indicated by the personal property tax lists and marriage record, the connection to the family of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County through the surety on the marrige bond, the move away from Franklin County indicated by the personal property tax lists, and the proximity to another member of the family of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County in Georgia in 1830 seem to make a strong circumstantial case that Jesse R. Wright was related to the family of 1809 William Wright and probably the son of John Wright indicated by the tax lists. That John Wright was 1845 John Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, a Revolutionary War veteran and husband of Mary (_____) Wright. That Mary (_____) Wright was probably Mary Wray, named in her father's will as Mary Wright. One of 1845 John Wright's daughters was Tabitha Wright who married Thomas Huston on June 8, 1799, at Franklin County, Virginia. As Tom noted in his query, Jesse Wright's grandson was Thomas Huston Wright. The similarity of family names is additional strong circumstantial evidence that Jesse Wright was a son of 1845 John Wright of Franklin County. 1845 John Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, was probably the son of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County and Mary (Grant) Wright, based on his birth in Fauquier County in about 1749 or possibly 1747 and the location of his land in Franklin County near to the land of 1809 William and other circumstantial evidence. 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, was probably the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia. The evidence for this identification is extensive and requires a review of the Fauquier records as well as Franklin County records and the elimination of other incorrect identifications that have been often repeated on the net. I would be happy to share the material I have put together for these identifications. Best wishes, Robert N.
