Bob, John Stewart is on the 1786 Franklin Co tax list or census. As you can see by Hill`s lists, a William Stewart who lived on the Blackwater River was listed. John is also on the 1774 Pittsylvania Co tax list next to Daniel WARD, on the 1778-1780 Henry Co tithables and on the 1782 Henry CO VA P.P. Tax list. Yes, his land was near the Bedford CO line and I have found him on Bedford Co tax lists from abt mid 1780`s to 1789. I am trying to track him, as we believe his daughter Selah/Celia Stewart married Benjamin WARD , half brother to Daniel Ward.
