    3. I'm not sure where I have accumulated all of this data, but I usually keep it in a file and add to it based on the line. The whole file of things I have collected it 32 pages long. If you would like it, you may email me, and I will send it. Hope it helps: An article of possible interest, from THE JOURNAL of the KANAWHA VALLEY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY Vol. 4 No. 10 October 1980. Turners of Franklin County, Virginia Since the publication of the August issue of the JOURNAL, several requested more information on the TURNER family. Many descendants from this large family have settled in this area: Kanawha, Putnam, and Lincoln Counties. Most came just prior to or immediately after the Civil War. The following information appears in the TURNER FAMILY MAGAZINE, Vols. I and II in the Congressional Library: "Prior to 1748 were living three brothers: Shadrach, Meshack, and Abednego TURNER, who were no doubt sons of Bible reading parents. (See Daniel 3:28) Shadrach was the owner of 4400 acres in Halifax County, Va. The first patent was made in 1748. He (Shadrach) was active in his county, being overseer of roads and processioner of lands. He lived next in Pittsylvania County, then in Henry County, where, according to his will, made in 1783, he died." The will of Shadrach TURNER (Will Book I, Henry County, Va), dated October 25, 1783, names his wife Ann; sons: Larkin, Jeremiah, William, John, and Josiah; daughters: Elizabeth, Mary, and Excony. In a postscript he named Lucia ROBB and Sally, but they were not further identified. He also made provision for his children to "have learning". Witnesses: Samuel CRITCHFIELD, John HUNTER, and Richard STONE. The County Clerk was John CAR. (Carper?) Other records indicate that Shadrach TURNER was with the Colonial Government during the Revolutionary War. Among active Henry County soldiers in that war were Josiah TURNER and William TURNER. Both were in John Cunningham's Company. Meshack TURNER, the third brother, married Rebecca ROBINSON in Halifax County, Virginia, 6 February 1760. William TURNER, the Revolutionary War patriot and son of Shadrach, was born in 1753. He and his wife Jane HUNTER, daughter of William HUNTER, were for 72 years members of the Baptist Church. This family was remarkable for its longevity. Their twelve sons and daughters averaged a life of 83 years. William's will left all his personal property and his real estate to his wife Jane. In the will he named all his servants and requested that they not be sold out of the family. He further instructed that at Jane's death the estate was to be distributed in one-thirteenths to each of the children: George, James, John, Matha Philpott, Elizabeth Ingram, Josiah, Adelphia TURNER, Sarah SNIDOW, William, Jane STONE, Andrew, Meshack, and Elkannah. Witnesses: Bernard M. PRICE, Jr., Paten STANLEY, Purris AYERS. (29 October 1842). Franklin County Clerk: Moses G. CARPER. Obituary: William TURNER died at Franklin County, Virginia, 11 December 1845, aged 92 years, 10 months, 22 days. He left a widow, Jane HUNTER TURNER, aged 88 years, with whom he had lived in wedlock 72 years and offsprings, now living, to the fifth generation from his own 313. Fifty had preceded him to the grave "ere he went to that BOURNE from which no traveller on earth returns;...." Jane TURNER followed her husband in death on 20 May 1851, aged 92 years, 11 months, 13 days. George TURNER was the oldest of the nine sons and five daughters of William and Jane HUNTER TURNER. He was born 17 October 1776, and died 13 August 1884. He married Milley STONE(b. 3 March 1780 and d. 6 March 1864). Milley STONE was the daughter of Ste.. STONE and his wife Basheba(d. 15 May 1852). The children of George and Besheba STONE follow: 1. Obadiah TURNER, b 24 Dec 1802 2. Elizabeth TURNER KING, b 19 Aug 1804 3. Stephen TURNER b 6 Sept 1806 4. Jane TURNER HELMES, b 3 Oct 1808 5. James Marshall TURNER, b 14 April 1827 George TURNER's will, copied from Franklin County, VA. records, like the will of his father William, has an interesting clause concerning disposition of his slaves: It is my desire that all my servants be sold in the family of my children and that my executors suffer them not to be sold otherwise. The wording in George's will directs that his "servants" be bought by my legatees only". The writer remembers that her grandmother told her that the treatment of slaves, according to life in Virginia was quite overdrawn. Her grandmother had never seen nor heard of such cruelties as those so vividly depicted by Mrs. STONE. These wills of my mother's grandfather and great grandfather clearly show why she made these statements. George TURNER's will, witnessed by George STANLEY and Jobal TURNER, left his estate to his wife for her lifetime, then it was to be divided into one-twelfths for the children later. Returning to the brothers and sisters of George TURNER, they were as follows: James TURNER, m 1st .... JAMES, 2nd ....PHILPOT, 3rd .....WOOD John TURNER Martha TURNER, m ....PHILPOT Betsy E.
