Va. as shown by his being listed as the youngest child of GRIFFIN DOBYNS and his wife MARY ANN when they transferred from the Crooked Run Monthly Meeting in 1788. (fn 498) ABNER DOBYNS died 1 Mar 1858 in Bedford Co. Va. His death is recorded in the Bedford Co. Death Book for that date, giving his age as 71 and his place of birth as Bedford Co. Va. It seems likely that the place of birth is erroneously recorded. On 25 Dec 1809 (Christmas Day) in Bedford Co., ABNER DOBYNS married ELIZABETH WILKES, daughter of SAMUEL WILKES and his wife ELIZABETH NEWMAN. SAMUEL WILKES was born 24 Oct 1764 in Loudon Co. Va. and died 1 July 1837 in Bedford Co. ELIZABETH WILKES was born about 1790. (fn 499) The will of ABNER DOBYNS, written 10 July 1849, proved 27 Sept 1858 (fn 500) mentions his children SAMUEL, SARAH, GRIFFIN, THOMAS M. and BENJAMIN W. DOBYNS. Her parents were Thomas M. DOBYNS and Permelia Ann LEMON born 1834 and died 1859 , probably due to child birth. Henrietta's name was mentioned in her grandfather, Benjamin LEMON'S, will dated 1860. Thomas DOBYNS remarried after the death of Permelia. We would like to know what happened to Henrietta DOBYNS. Also........I note on a map, there is a community by the name of DOBYNS, VA about 5 miles west of Sturat in Patrick County. Does anyone know anything about how this was named "Dobyns"?"
