It is my understanding that Melungeons do "not" have to be tri-racial, nor do they necessarily have to include African blood. This whole subject is highly debated even among scholars. I would like to suggest as a good authority, the book "The Melungeons: The resurrection of a Proud People," by: Brent Kennedy & Robyn Vaughan Kennedy. See http://www.iol.ie/~afifi/BICNews/Books/books8.htm. Dr. Kennedy is Vice Chancellor for Development and College Relations, at the University of Virginia's College at Wise, VA. See: http://www.virginia.edu/~urelat/orgchart/cvc.html I hope this will help those looking for real information on the Melungeons. It's truly a fascinating subject.
