The other day I was corresponding with someone who had posted to the Pittsylvania County website who had a number of Goings married by Rev. Shadrach Mustain. I remembered Going was a name associate with a Native American descended group in Rockingham County, NC and also recognized the Rev. Mustain as the person who had married my "Native Suspect" ancestors Cornelius West and Rachel Lonarde in 1816. I would like to hear from others in the Euro- or African American communities about any ancestors they have who were from the Southside area and were, or may have been Native American or Partly so. I would like to see if I can build up some kind of record of these people and see if a pattern develops. Say for instance it turns out the Rev. Goings is a well known Melungeon name :) They are a tri- racial group only found in the Appalachians. No one really knows how they got here or what exactly they are. ( Racial wise) Common thought is Native american, African, and some kind of European or middle eastern mix. Just do a search under Melungeon and you will get a whole bunch of reading :) They mixed with alot of Native tribes. Most people say Cherokee, but that is not always so. There were 127 tribes in Virginia alone. I am Eastern Cherokee, Sauk & Fox amongst other Nations.
