Author: roperld Surnames: Franklin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.franklin/2524/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Franklin Families Meeting Forest Library, Forest, Bedford, Virginia 15583 Forest Road, Forest, Virginia 24551, 434-525-1817 1-4 PM, Saturday, 10 November 2007 All persons with Franklin surname ancestry in Virginia are invited to a meeting at the Forest Library in Forest, Virginia from 1 to 4 PM on Saturday, 10 November 2007. See http://www.roperld.com/franklinUnionI.htm on the Internet for information about the meeting. The agenda of the meeting will be: . Present information about different Franklin families in Virginia. . Present information about the Franklin male-lines Y-chromosome project. . Discuss how we Franklins can continue to share information about the genealogy of our families. . Discuss the possibility of a Virginia library depository for Franklin families' data. If you have genealogical data about your Franklin family, please bring it to share with others. The organizers of this meeting are L. David Roper of Blacksburg, Virginia, Rodney A. Franklin of Moneta, Virginia and Mildred V. Franklin of Amherst, Virginia. For more information contact L. David Roper (roperld@vt.edu). It is being held in Forest, Virginia because there is a high density of Franklins in the several counties surrounding Forest. The meeting is called a "Franklin Union" because most people there may have never met each other. There are many unrelated Franklin families that have been in Virginia from colonial days to the present. Collecting data on all Franklin families helps to gain knowledge about which Franklins are related. L. David Roper, a retired physics professor at Virginia Tech, has been collecting data for all Franklin families for 45 years, since his mother is a Franklin whose ancestors came from Amherst County. He regularly helps other Franklin family members learn more about their Franklin ancestry and cousins. It would be helpful, but not necessary, if you would tell David Roper (roperld@vt.edu) that you plan to be at the meeting. Also, it would be helpful if you would send genealogical data for your Franklin family to him several weeks before the meeting (e-mail or to 1001 Auburn Drive, Blacksburg 24060-8123), so that he can incorporate your Franklin family's data in the presentation. Please post this notice in libraries, historical societies, museums, churches and other relevant locations around Virginia.
