Vera Page Lavinder Wilkes- Obituary- Roanoke Times, Roanoke, VA. Martinsville Bulletin and Danville Register. Vera Page Lavinder Wilkes , 88 of Bassett , passed away March 13, 2002. She was born in Franklin County, Virginia on March 18, 1913, the daughter of the late Henry Millard and Rosa Mason Lavinder. Survivors include her two sons, Henry Clifford Wilkes, Bassett, Virginia, James Carlton and Donna B. Wilkes, Rocky Mount, Virginia , one grandson and spouse Christopher Barrett and Kristen Ker Wilkes, Roanoke, Virginia, one brother and spouse Taylor Franklin and Jewel Ellis Lavinder, Bassett, Virginia, and sister-in-law Mrs. Earl (Lillian ) Wilkes, many special nieces and nephews and two step-grandchildren, Tabitha H. Wedemeyer, Brookings, South Dakota and Tiffany Belle Hudson of Rocky Mount, Virginia. Preceded in death by her husband Nick Emus Wilkes and her sister Edna Ethel L. and brother-in-law Robert F. Lavinder, Mary Myrtle L. and brother-in-law Forrest David Bussey, Sr., Lula Bernice L. and brother-in-law David Lee Kendrick, Sr. , Ruth L. and brother-in-law Charlie W. Turman, brothers, Mr. And Mrs. Charlie Virgil Lavinder, Mr. And Mrs. Jesse Lewis Lavinder, one step-grandson, David Allen Hudson. Vera was a member of Collinsville Baptist Church. She grew up in Franklin County, Virginia and was a member of Gogginsville United Methodist Church. Nick and Vera married March 18, 1929 in Franklin County, Virginia. Nick and Vera made their home in Henry County, Virginia. Vera will be missed by all who knew her, she had an innocent, sweet, godly spirit about her. Viewing will be at Norris Funeral Home on March 14 , 3 p.m. , the family will receive quests from 7 to 9 p.m. . Funeral will be at 11 a.m. on March 15, 2002 , Norris Funeral Services Chapel with the Dr. Rob Edwards and Rev. Lynwood Lavinder officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Norris Funeral Services will handle all arrangements.
