The discussion about the Henry Post Office got me to thinking about a story my father told me 30 years ago. He remembered in the 1920's a circus train wrecked between Henry and Prillaman's Switch. An Elephant was killed and buried beside the tracks. Anyone familiar with this story? Truman Adkins Fieldale, Henry County, Virginia 24089
I'm late reading my messages. My father remembered a circus that came through town when he was a child. I was surprised at the time that he would remember a circus after all these years. He didn't say anything about a train wreck, just a circus. But I thought then there must be something significant about it for him to remember it after all these years. He was born in Ferrum in 1916 (died 2000). I wonder if this could be the same event?
