    3. OCT. 7, 2002 http://www.roanoke.com/outdoors/flyfishing/6931.html Ever clever, tricky trout triumph By HARRY SLONE ROANOKE.COM COLUMNIST This Franklin County stream tends to silt over and warm up during a summer such as we just experienced. So Tuesday morning it was encouraging to see Runnett Bag bank grass bent over by high water as a result of our recent hurricane-induced rains. And the water temperature was just a shade below 60 degrees, both conditions ideal for the fall stocking. The under-the-bridge gang at Endicott was missing this time, a group of six or so rainbows about 12 or 14 inches long. Normally they spot me about the same time my head appears over the bank and all I see is a flick of tails headed away to nowhere. This day there was only a gang of minnows around the abutments, grabbing my pheasant tail on just about every other cast. This stream has perhaps the most intriguing name of any Virginia trout water. Runnett, maybe a family name, but Bag? There is such a thing as a rennet bag, used for curdling milk to make cheese. But why Runnett? But after all there is a Barfoot Road in Franklin County, so it could be a matter of local pronunciation. It has been my experience that the Runnett Bag fishes best a week or two after a stocking. It is hammered on net-dumping day, being next to Rt. 40 and easily accessible from population centers. http://www.brainylibrary.com/features/VA.park/rennetbagrecreationarea.html Feature Name: Rennet Bag Recreation Area Feature Type: park State: Virginia County: Franklin County Population: 47286 County Housing Units: 22717 County Size: 692.08 Square Miles Latitude: 36.8525 Longitude: -80.11389 Map Cell Name: Philpott Lake Vell (Vell) n.
