Hi Beverly et al, In light with this conversation -- I save old newspaper clippings stored in family Bibles that I have collected over the years. This little clipping has always been a puzzle to me but I figured it would fit in somewhere, sometime. It was in the Bible belonging to my Great Aunt Gertrude Hodges who was the daughter of Richard Samuel Hodges originally of the area we are discussing. He died in Callaway Co., MO. The clipping is a brief sentence probably from the social notes. It says: "Mrs Samuel Dickinson, of Wainwright, visited at Capt. R. S. Hodges last week, returning to her home Sunday." I know she wasn't visiting my great grandfather but probably the entire family. My great grandparents and their children arrived in Callaway Co., MO directly from Franklin Co. in 1878. RS Hodges died in 1899 in Cedar City, Callaway Co. The two towns, not that far apart on the Missouri River, were best connected by the MKT Railroad. So this visit occurred during that time frame. Since my family never lived in Wainwright, I always thought this lady was someone from their lives in Franklin Co. Any comments? Hi Kay, There was a "great migration" west in which many families left together and went to Missouri. The book "They Went Thataway" lists many of the people that went there. Some families didn't go all the way but dropped off at various locations and some came back.
