Note: David Via (Viar) enlisted February 5, 1776 for a term of 2 years. He was a private in Capt. David Stephenson's Co. of the 8th Virginia Regt. of Foot Commanded by Col Abraham Bowman. He served in Capt. William Tucker's Company of Militia of Amherst Co., VA Jan. 14, 1781 Discharged March 26, 1791 (72 days) Sources 1. p. 56 Amerst Co VA in the Revolution by Lenora H. NARA Service records Note: NSDAR # 550481 Note: 19 January 1799- There is a deed for 72 1/2 acres of land on both sides of the north fork of Fishing Creek; part of a 290 acre tract of land , left by John Via to his 4 sons Gideon,David, John, and William, apparently John the son had a wife named Mary, David's wife was named Elizabeth. Note: LAND SALE Amherst Co. Deed Book H, pg 235-236 Note: This Indenture made this Eighteenth day of September in the Year of Our Lord onethousand Seven Hundred and ninety seven. Between David Via and Elizabeth his wife of the County of Amherst of the one part and Thomas Spradling of the said County of the Other parts. Witnesseth that the same David Via and Elizabeth his wife for in consideration of the sum of Twelve pounds to him by the said Thomas Spradling in hand paid the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge, hath, granted Bargained and Sold and by this presents doth Bargain and Sell unto the said Thomas Spradling, his Heirs and Assigns forever a certain Track or parcel of Land containing Seventy two and a half Acres lying and being in the County of Amherst on the North fork of fishing Creek and is part of a larger Track containing two hundred and ninety Acres that John Via dec'd left by will to his four Sons (to whit) Gideon Via, David Via, John Via, William Via and is betwixt William Via and William Via lains Lines together with all its appurtenances and advantages whatsoever unto the said Thomas Spradling his Heirs and Assigns forever to the only proper use and behoof of him the said Thomas Spradling his heirs and assigns for ever and the said David Via and Elizabeth his wife for them selves and there Heirs the said Track or parcel of Land with all its appurtenances before the mentioned unto the said Thomas Spradling his Heirs and Assigns forever from the claim or claims of them the said David Via and Elizabeth his Wife or either of them there Heirs and all and every other Person or Persons whatsoever Shall and will do warrant and for ever defend by these presents.
