Gloria, 1786 Franklin Co. VA PP Tax List, Martin, John 710668 40--7Tithables, 1 over 21 1787 Franklin Co. VA PP Tax List, Martin, John 1086 10 48 --1Tithable over 21, These tax lists of John Martin Sr., show that in 1786 he had 7 tithable in his household, and the next year, only 1. So, there are 6 sons unaccounted for. I'm thinking that perhaps they scattered, to serve in the Revolutionary War. I see that a James Martin witnessed the will of Jesse. One of these men could be a James Martin, b. bef. 1765. See the below: 1810 Franklin Co. VA Census p. 496 Martin, James 00101 10110 6 slaves 1810 Franklin Co. VA PP Tax List Martin, James (John son) 1001 .12 The other two James Martins in this list are James Martin Sr. (brother to John Martin Sr. and James Martin Jr., son of James Sr.) It makes sense that Jesse could be another son of John Martin Sr. Also see this: FCVA Deed Bk 5, p. 173, Sept 24, 1805 Stephen Martin of Buckingham Co. to Mary Heazlip of Franklin Co., for 21 pounds, 100 ac bounded by lines of Reuben Brown, dec'd., John Scott, Wm. Horsley, and Jesse Prunty. Wit: Spencer Heazlip, George Kidd, John X Martin, P. Dickerson Perhaps Stephen Martin is another son? He does not show up in other Franklin County records (that I've found).
