    3. The 1782 Henry Co. VA has a James Martin, 2 John Martins, and Hugh Martin. One of the John Martins was comparitively wealthy, he owned 9 horses, 23 cattle and a dozen slaves. Tax lists suggest that he lived on Riding Creek, and the 1810 census has John with 23 slaves. One Deed record shows that he owned 700 ac near the Lynchburg Road & Chestnut Crk. which he sold to Robert Hunter. This John Martin, Sr. appears to have had a son, John Martin, b. abt. 1755 (executor of his estate, also the same one that shows on the 1782 Henry Co. Tax List), and a daughter Sarah, b. about 1750 (who married Robert Mason.) Other sons appear to be Hugh Martin, b. abt. 1740 (who married Margaret Woods) and James (as above) who married ???. There are other children. John Martin Sr. died in 1813 in Franklin Co., VA. I'm looking for additional information on this John Martin and his sons. I'm happy to exchange information with anyone interested. Marla

    3. Marla, My computer has been on the blink, so I just picked up my e-mail for two weeks, today. I am also interested in the Martins. I have a Mary Martin that married Tunstall Ferguson in about 1819. Tunstall lived in Pittsylvania County. Mary died after before 1822, and her daughter was raised by her grandmother Susie Martin of Franklin, Virginia. Mary had at least two sisters, Betsy and Deliah. I have been trying to find these family. I found the a John Martin married Susannah Joetz 1 Apr 1782, in Pittsylvania County. Could this be one of your John's? I also have Robert Martin married to Susannah Robinson on Dec 16, 1799 in Franklin Co. I found both of their wills and apparently they had no living heirs. There was also a Robert Martin married Susannah Ray Feb. 13. 1798 in Franklin County. I have not sure if this was a another Robert or the same one. I also found a Isham Martin married 15 Dec. 1789 in Pittsylvania to Sausannah Covington. Do any of these connect with your information? 3. Joann, my guess is that, if you have a Mary Martin b. about 1800, and her mother is named Susie in Franklin Co., then she is probably a daughter of Robert Martin and Susannah Robinson. This Robert Martin was the son of Hugh Martin. Hugh supposedly died in Clark Co., Georgia in 1815. I've traced this Robert Martin in Franklin County only to 1804 in the tax lists, but he does not appear in the 1805 list. Neither does Hugh. Do you think this fits?
