Normally I wouldn't have anything to add to this clear message, but later thought it might be of interest to some that a number of Confederate soldiers who were imprisoned at Camp Chase were freed at the end of the war and went home after taking the Oath of Allegiance to the U. S. If you are perhaps trying to find an ancestor who was of an age to have service but haven't found him, he might have been one of those who survived. Some years ago, not knowing much about my gr-grandfather except that he was said to "drive an ambulance", I wrote to Natl. Archives in Washington, D. C. and received several pages of his service record including the information he was captured at the Battle of Nashville, held prisoner and then released. He went home to Alabama and found his family starving and his land and buildings in shambles. This latter information came from his eldest daughter who lived until 1951.
