Margaret; I can't comment on skirmishes, but I have a hunch "Kentucky, VA" referred to a Virginia County by name of Kentucky. There was one. All of Kentucky was originally in VA. You might try that angle and find someone who is a Civil War buff to confirm my hunch. I have the book "The Civil War Day by Day, an Almanac 1861-1865" by E. B. Long, 1971, 1,135 pages. Trouble is: there's no index to names & places, just to dates day by day describing events of the war in locations . So I'd have to read all text day by day to find a skirmish in "Kentucky VA" in hopes of finding a reference to it if it was of sufficient importance to warrant inclusion. Luck.
