Simpson RICHARDS, who I am told was called "Simp" by his friends and kin, was born abt. 1804, married Nancy VEST (dau of Littleberry and his first wife, Polly MOORE) on 01 Nov 1832 in Floyd CoVA. He and Polly and their children appear on the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses for Franklin CoVA, and he is said to have been born in Virginia. Whose little boy was he? Any clues appreciated. My apologies for having sent this previously without changing the subject line... I have two especially difficult brick walls in Franklin CoVA... My mother's ancestor John SMITH m. Rosanner BALF in Franklin CoVA in January 1807. Rosanner (or Rosannah)'s mother, Mary BALF, wrote her permission which usually meant that 1.) Rosanner was under age at that time, and 2.) that her father was deceased. Who was Rosanner's father? What was her mother's Maiden name? John SMITH is my other brick wall of the month. Who were his parents? From where did he come? Was he a native to Franklin CoVA? Or is he another one of those "fell from a space ship" ancestors? Apparently he was at least 21 at the time of their marriage. Any help on either would be appreciated. My brick wall is my great grandmother, Sarah Annie Hylton (surname spelling per headstone). Looking for her parents and ancestors. Sarah Annie Hylton, b. 30 April 1859, D. 2 Nov 1930, 1000. John Steven Cochran, b. 16 Nov 1863, d. 20 Sep 1926. She was born in Floyd County and lived and died and is buried in Patrick County. So far I have not been able to find any records (marriage, birth, etc.) for her or parents. Any information would be appreciated. Bob Soyars robertlsoyars@comcast.net

I stand corrected on the first name being Martel... In my humble opinion the tombstone is way more important than correcting me about the spelling of the name. especially since I quoted the newspaper... Here are a few details from notes I have Martel LeSueur "Rev. War Pension File #W8035. File list his spouse and children, He was born in Cumberland Co., VA. then enlisted in Powhatan Co., Va. later moved to Charlotte Co.,Va then moved to Henry Co.,VA, then to Patrick Co.,VA then to Grayson Co.,VA then to Franklin Co.,Va where he applied for his pension on 8-31-1832 , he stated he had lived in Franklin Co.,Va for 18 years. In 1776 He enlisted in the Rev. War, served as private under Captain George Markam, Thomas Harris, Robert Hughes, Edward Mumford and Obediah Smith in Lighthorse , until 1781." - Notes from Ellie LeSueur Daisley Rena Worthen doreatr@rbnet.com http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~renaworthen/
