    1. Re: [VAFRANKL] Samuel Dickinson of Wainwright, MO
    2. Don - That's interesting. The period of time is about right. My great grandparents were born 1835 and '37. Their first child was pre Civil War in 1859. The others were born after the war was over. They lived in the Penhook area on the eastern edge of Franklin Co. As I said, they traveled by rail all the way from Franklin Co. to Callaway Co. My great-great grandfather Isham Hodges, born ca 1792, was also a blacksmith and farmer in the same area of Franklin Co. It might be interesting to see if your Dickenson family lived in Callaway Co., MO in the 1890 census. These two small towns were directly across the river from Jefferson City, MO which is the state capital. On their side of the river were primarily agricultural communities. The ferry from Cedar City to Jefferson City was one of the main passage routes for migration westward. I'm sorry that all I have is that little tease of a newspaper clipping that has left me puzzled for over 30 years as to who Mrs. Dickinson/Dickenson was to my family. I can only assume that she was a friend with possibly with a VA background. As my great grandmother grew up in the same area with a father who was also a blacksmith and farmer, the friends of the family in VA would probably be mutual. 3. Hi Kay, There was a "great migration" west in which many families left together and went to Missouri. The book "They Went Thataway" lists many of the people that went there. Some families didn't go all the way but dropped off at various locations and some came back. It was in the Bible belonging to my Great Aunt Gertrude Hodges who was the daughter of Richard Samuel Hodges originally of the area we are discussing. He died in Callaway Co., MO. 2. Thank you for looking. I figure some day I will find the name of John's wife. There has to be some information someplace. Virginia did keep good records, so some place, sometime, I will find it. I am trying to prove that John was in the Revolutionary War, and he was a surveyor. I did see a book years ago, that did say he was the surveyor for that "county", but stupid me, I did not copy the information. I had been in Franklin Co about 13 years ago and "proved" who John was, and his siblings and parents, I believe it was Gertrude Mann's research. And I took teh family back about 4 generations from John with the wonderful information that VA has. Thank you very much. 2. I have no idea of her name. Thanks for the thought. I feel her name was Susannah or Sarah, but no clue. Thanks for looking. Margaret ************************************** Get a sneak peak of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

    3. Margaret, Do you have a name or initial? There are so many Robertsons/etc. I tried to skim the list for a date but some don't have dates. Finding a stone from that time is rare. 3. Hi Suzy, another good place to look are the deeds, sometimes they tell where a person was from or moved to. 2. Thanks Beverly. I thought the Turpins were out of Franklin before it would be possible to have a headstone that would last long enough to be recorded in a book. Mine moved on to KY. I appreciate your looking though. My Turpins were all mixed up with the Rentfrows/Renfrows. Anyone else working on these families? 2. Any Robertson/Robinson/Robersons buried there? I am looking for a female, wife of John Roberson who lived on the Pigg River in Pettsylvania or Franklin Co. She would have died about 1790 or so. Margaret ************************************** Get a sneak peak of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
