    1. [VAFRANKL] 1860 Franklin Co. Census Hamlett & Harris lookup, PLEASE
    2. Dusty Smith
    3. Searching the family of Robert Hamlett and wife Elizabeth, with at least one child ..... named Bedford, Buford, Bluford. Don't know of any other kids, but presume there are some. Since Bedford is born somewhere around 1835ish, he may not appear with his parents. Need all the details which are availble on this family on the census. ( Index shows a Hamlett on page 93) Also need a lookup on the Harris family, William is HOH, Jane is wife and children are probably Hiley, Asa, Joseph and Isham. There may be more kids, but I lost the family for about 15 years, so I can't be sure. (Census index indicates a family of Harris's on page 141-142) (Now that I'm looking at that site again. .. Franklin Co. Archives.....I'm not sure if that is the page number or if that is household number. The columns are not captioned at the top.) Any assistance will be greatly appreciated Dusty Smith

    1. [VAFRANKL] Ferguson, Griffith, Merrell/Morrell
    2. Richard Wilstead
    3. Many moons ago, Jon 22, 1997, I made the following post in the Franklin Co. queries. To that post I have had no replies. So, what the heck? I thought I'd give this a try. "Searching for information on Frances FERGUSON b 1810, found living in Franklin Co., VA (1850 census) with her son Joseph FERGUSON who married Elizabeth GRIFFITH, and her daughter Minerva who married John MERRELL. Who is the husband of Frances? What is her maiden name? Is she the same Frances KINNETT who married Jeremiah FERGUSON? Is she the daughter of Zechariah KINNETT? Is she the same Frances FERGUSON found living in Mercer Co. in the 1870 census. " Since this posting, I have hired a professional genealogist to research a few avenues and she cleaned up a couple of misconceptions. I now believe my Frances Ferguson is no way connected to the the Kennetts/Kinnetts. She may be the Frances living in Mercer Co. during the 1870 census, I do not know. I do know that she received money from the Gov. in 1863. In that document, she declared herself a widow. In the 1840 census of Franklin Co. there was only one Ferguson who had the right combination of children's ages to be the father of Joseph, Emily and Minerva and the husband of Frances. He was William Ferguson. In 1863, her son, Joseph, was fighting for the South while his family was living in Tazewell Co.. Her daughter, Emily was married to Daniel Sink and living ??? Minerva married an older widower (20 years her senor) named John Merrell/Morrell and disappeared. I have the marriage records of Joseph, Emily and Minerva. The two girls both list their only parent as Frances Ferguson. Emily was married in 1846 so her father was dead by that time. I believe Elizabeth Griffith, the wife of Joseph was the oldest daughter of John C. Griffith and Martha Griffith the daughter of Daniel Griffith and Alley Sheridan. I can't prove it yet but am working on it. My evidence is that all the known female children still leaves the oldest one unaccounted for, according to the 1840 census. I believe that girl to be my Elizabeth Griffith. (my gg grandmother) My family has been working on this problem since 1943 and still have no answers. I've been wrong on some of my assumption before and I'm sure I'll be wrong again. If anyone has information on this family please contact me at rickw@goodnet.com

    2. bettyj
    3. Hello list, I would like very much to have some information on the Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, VA., on Route 697. I tried to find the church in Rocky Mount on Rt. 697 in the listing of Brethren Churches, but it was not there. There is also a stone marker in front of the church that bears a plaque with the words: "In Memory of Jacob Miller and William Smith, Founders of The Brethren Faith in Southern Virginia about 1775." Across Rt. 697 is the Brick Church of the Brethren cemetery where many of my relatives are buried. The pastor lives in a house beside the cemetery. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could let me know of any history regarding this church and/or how I might contact the pastor there. 1. [VAFRANKL] McCormick & Cooper Family
    2. Fairchild Friends
    3. Greetings! I am new to this list, so thought I would briefly introduce my purpose. I am researching my McCormick and Cooper lines which hail from Franklin County. Currently, my primary focus is on my McCormick line. I am searching for more information on the family of William and Elizabeth McCormick. I have no vitals for William and Elizabeth, just records for their sons Charles Berry (born April 1872) and Ballard Preston (born June 1875); both being born in Franklin County. I believe they have a brother Samuel, born in Franklin County in April 1866. Family rumor has it that an illness struck the family, most of the family perished, the house was condemned & burned, and Elizabeth took the remaining children to West Virginia (Putnam County). Any leads are appreciated. Chris Straight Fairchild, WI
